What does "as long as it's not racist" or "hateful" mean!?!? Sounds like censorship to me!

  1. You can pretty much say anything you would like to say even if it's hateful or racist.  Whether it is right or wrong as defined by a person or society as a whole, you can say hateful or racist things and be protected by the first amendment.

The only thing that is not protected by the first amendment is planning to do something illegal to the government, such as planning to bomb the white house or something.  If someone were to say they were going to do something like that, they could get in trouble for it.  Key words: I am going to...

If someone were to say "oh this is how you could do it"- that's protected.  It's sorta complicated to explain, but this is what I was taught in American Government last semester.

  2. everyone is entitled to their opinion, but no one likes to be stereotyped because of their race.

  3. Technically its still free speach, but its really offensive and rude and if you have any respect for people whatsoever, then you wont say it at all

  4. I don't see a problem with race-related comments.  How else will there be any significant discussion?  I do have a problem with the slurs some people are prone to using.

  5. Of course race related comments are allowed ... turn on CNN or FOX, you hear em' all the time.

As long as the comments are not hateful, race related comments are acceptable in society.

If you're insulting someone because of the color of their skin, if you're saying people are incapable of doing certain things because of their race, gender, etc then that is racist and hateful. It's wrong, and it's illegal in our great nation.

  6. It appears so.  It started with that ridiculous "N word" thing and has gone on from there.

Of course, it's only white comments that are considered racist.

  7. Sure it is, as long as it's not racist.

  8. Absolutely!

  9. I agree with Sjean about only the whites accused of making racist comments.

I work with a young lady that is half white/half black. We work in a hospital. One of the night techs went in to see a patient. All this patient could do is complain about the fake black girl that took care of her on days. This woman is black. To me that is racist but if I had made that comment or another white person --we would have been in trouble. The night person did the appropriate thing and informed the patient that the girl has a name and told her want the name was
