Last night he noticed two one dollar deductions by, what we found out were, Sony and Napster. My Father called his bank but they apparently wont do anything about it if it is under $50. This mourning he woke me up telling me there were two more large transactions on the account. One for about $100 and one for a but over $600. Now the bank account is past empty and we are over drawn.

My question is, he is a on the phone with his bank now... are there any suggestions from experienced people out there on what we should do? We have a **** load of bills do and no money for food or gas. If something amazing doesn't happen we will lose the house.

  1. I'm surprised the bank didn't do anything when you called.  It's a common scam to check out small purchases first before the large ones.

Since it is a debit card, the thieves had to have the pin number also. Your dad should have changed it immediately.

That said, the bank should take responsibilty, and make your account whole.

  2. The best advice I can give you is to not give up. Almost all banks will not hold you liable for anything more than the $50 amount. The rest of the funds in your account should be replaced by the bank at their expense. The bank should have cancelled the card on your very first call and issued you a new one. Keep asking to speak to a manager and provide any proof you have of your efforts until the issue is resolved to your satisfaction. You can also send them a certified letter from a lawyer and/or contact the Attorney General's office in your state. Get loans from friends or family to hold you over if needed. Good luck!
