Question:

So, what are the chances Hossa stays in Pittsburgh? I'd say they're better than most people expect, personally

If they can restructure Malkin/ Fleury and MAYBE Staal (he may want to wait until next year after only scoring 12 goals this season?) then Hossa will be priority #1.

He said he'd consider a pay cut to stay with the team, Crosby said he wanted to keep him in the 'burgh, and he loved playing there, much better than Ottawa/ Atlanta. He said he'd take less, within reason, to stay with a winner. Doesn't look like Orpik wants to re-sign, with the coaching issue, and we shouldn't pay Malone the money others will offer him...

Also, who do you want your team to pick up this offseason?

  1. i heard hossa could be thinking about signing with the bruins?  i think hed be good there and help out with there lack of offense

  2. no he go bye bye!

  3. he said he would take less to stay on a good team (what a guy!  true star unlike that glory hog ovechkin!)  we may be able to keep him.  however, we need to resign laraque rutuu for a physical force (won't be a killer to the cap room) and malone because he's a fan favorite (hopefully he will cooperate) and a few other guys.  it is going to be tight, but we may be able to keep him if we put off malkin and staal (hope we keep both of them!)

  4. If the Pittsburgh Penguins want to keep Marian Hossa, they are going to hope he cuts his pay and will probably have to get rid of Brooks Orpik and Hal Gill. I think that Ryan Malone will be gone also.

  5. Dupuis ($1 million) Crosby ($9 million) Hossa ($7.3 million)

Malone ($3.6 million) Malkin ($3.8 million) Sykora ($2.750 million)

Talbot ($.700 thousand) Staal ($2.2 million) Kennedy ($.550 thousand)

    Ruutu ($1.2 million) Hall ($.625 thousand) Brent/Filewich/Stone/Taffe ($.500 thousand)

Gonchar ($6 million) Scuderi ($.725 thousand)

Whitney ($3 million) Letang ($685 thousand)

Sydor ($2.5 million) Gill ($2.1 million)

    Fleury ($4 million)

    Sabourin ($.525 thousand)

Bringing our roster to a grand total of about $52.2 million. With the cap expected to go up, that leaves us with some room to carry an extra forward and defensemen.

    EDIT:

    Malone - 5 years, $18 million ($3.6 per season)

Keep in mind over $4 million will be shedded from our salary with Recchi, Roy, Armstrong, Christensen, Caron, and Endicott finally being taken off the books. If Roberts retires--which he likely will--that will free up another $2.5 million. Add Laraque ($1.3 million), Eaton ($1.6 million), Orpik ($1.075), Conklin ($.500 thousand).

All of a sudden you free up close to $11 million dollars to spread out over your bigger, better players.

If Malkin is smart..he won't ask for AO money!

    Edit 2:

NIPS your right..Malkin probably won't sign for less than 7 mil a year...and next year..it is very likely that Malkin will end up in the West...

  6. loose gill and you got more cash to sign Staal

  7. Hossa I believe is staying, everyone is expecting him to leave, but I highly doubt he will leave. He fit's in perfectly.

They should consider getting Maxim Afinoganov,

I have a feeling he would be a perfect fit.

  8. I would give it about a 30% chance IMHO.  They were well under the cap this past year and have a lot of space for next year, but they have a lot of people to sign.  Not only that, they only have 4 players signed through the 2009/2010 season, and 3 of those are pretty big contracts.  I have to assume that Hossa would want a longer deal and wouldnt accept anything less than 3 years.  Fleury is going to get a big pay day this summer, then Malkin and Staal the next year.  They probably could afford to sign Hossa but it would be a MAJOR gamble.  Can they really find enough bargain players to fill the rest of the roster and still be a competitive team?

    Crosby:  $8.7

    Malkin:  $7

    Hossa: $6.5

    Fleury:  $4.5

    Gonchar:  $5

    Whitney:  $4

6 players @ 35.7 million a year, and those are their actual salaries or generous approximations of what their next salaries will be.  Like I said, it can be done but Pitts would really have to do some great bargain shopping to fill the rest of the roster.

Add:  Forgot to mention that those numbers were for the 2009/2010 season.  Remember, the Pens have to look down the road, not just at next year.

Add 2:  I completely agree with you, it CAN be done, Im just not sure if it will.  I guess it will all depend on if the Pens are in a gambling mood.

  9. Ms Giggle their is no way Malkin will play for 3.8 mil.... try more in the 7+mil.... maybe even more.... some team would offer him 10mil to get a marquee player.

Just the way it works out.
