so, in march of this year i got hit by a car.

i ended up having a huge surgery and was in the hospital for a week.

he was going 55 mph, but said he was going 15mph (unbelievable).

the cops didn't come until two hours after i got hit.

we don't know if the guy was drunk or what.

i won't ever have full use of my arm, and it always hurts and i have plates and stuff in there forever.

can't play sports, or anything.

anyways,

i am going to court friday, and i am scared to death.

i need advice and stuff.

what's it like?

he lied a lot to the cops, so i know he will lie a lot there.

i'm only 15, so this has obviously been a lot already.

just wondering for help.

thank you (:

  1. It would be easy for me to say don't worry but I know that it is still hard for you.  It is unfortunate that you have to go through this at such a young age. Just remember this tell the truth, don't curse, be polite, answer with yes sir or no sir and your honor, no yelling, no gum chewing, dress appropriately (no jeans a lot of judges hate jeans in court), if you have a question ask your parents or lawyer, and most importantly turn the cell phone off before you enter the courtroom.  If you feel real nervous ask your parents if a friend could come.  It helped me a lot when a friend was there for me.  You can also go sit and listen to other court cases.  It might also help if before you go to court write down what happened the day of the accident.  This will help refresh your memory and help bring back memories that you may have forgot happened that day.  Write down what was said by everybody at the accident and who did what and what they were wearing.  This will help you be more prepared when you are asked a question about the accident.  If they ask you, How are you?, give them the honest answer.  In a lot of pain and upset.  Most importantly tell the truth even though the other person lied the truth always comes out.  Keep your chin up believe me there's life after court.

  2. you're 15 and injured... you'll have no problems in court. As a plaintiff in an accident especially that this sounds pretty bad. The most important thing is getting a chance to take that b*****d to court. Hang in there, wear something nice, sit back and relax. Don't let this guy shake ya.

  3. court isn't bad, if your 15 your parents will have to go with you.

and if you have a lawyer, you ain't even really gotta say nuttin until you get put on the stand.

relax .. it'll be all good

  4. Just stay calm and respectful! If the other guy lies, and the judge wants your side of the story say: "Your honor, some of the views that the man next to me has said are lies and fabrications. What happened was.. (Explain your side of the story.)

    Stay respectful!!!

  5. It isn't that scary.

I was with my brother and we got into a car accident.

I was scared to death to go to court.

Our lawyer did most of the talking..

Actually, I think he did all of the talking.

They may just ask you a few questions.

Just be honest and stay calm.

    Everything will be okay.

  6. I am sorry about the accident. I would have sued like crazy. The other driver needs to be in jail for life. I have never been in court before. Court seems scary. take care of yourself, you will be okay. The driver will get what he deserves, jail time.

  7. ask mike tyson, i'm sure he knows alot about courts.

  8. Here just a few key things. Make sure you look decent and presentable (nice clothes, hair fixed, etc.). If you are asked questions wait until the question is completely asked before you answer. Keep eye contact when you answer. Don't be afraid to ask whoever is questioning you to repeat the question if you do not understand it. Most importantly just stay calm, breathe, and don't worry.

  9. Not fun at all. I have served on a jury many times.

  10. Extremely nerve racking.

The best thing to do is to make sure you address the judge as your honor. Always tell the truth.

You will probably be shaking a lot.
