  1. the Nissan Altra £1.50 (US$3) for a 120 mile charge. http://www.evuk.co.uk

or you can install a home generator (solar, wind, hydro etc) for less than some people pay for leather seats. http://www.telsamotors.com

and you can sell surpluss capacity back to the grid http://www.acpropulsion.com/technology/v...

You will probably pay more for a quick 10minute recharge http://altairnano.com/markets_energy_sys... at a public charging point, although Westminster did provide free parking and charging stations. http://www.batteryvehiclesociety.org.uk/...

  2. It depends upon the car and the electric rate charged by a utility company.  If you pay 10 cents per kilowatt-hour, it is estimated that a full recharge for a compact car will be about 3 to 5 cents per mile.  If gasoline costs $3.50 per gallon and a car gets 35 miles to the gallon, then the cost per mile is 10 cents per mile for gasoline. So that computes to 1/3 to 1/2 the cost for electricity vs gasoline. However, this does not include the costs you have to factor in for the recharging equipment and the relatively short life of the currently available batteries, which are quite expensive to replace. If you add all that together, the true costs come out about the same.

  3. Too much to do it conventionally.

When science can develop the photo cell concept and adapt it properly to an automobile, the cost to "keep" the batteries charged would essentially be ZERO, unless the sun when out.

But remember that "fuel" purse strings are still owned by the big Fossil Fuel conglomerates. As long as these major players do not see photo cell development as an economical advantage for them, any improvement in fuel economy through this or other earth friendly concept is a pipe dream.

  4. Hopefully cars will switch-over to train-style magnetic brakes; the car's kinetic energy is drawn into a dynamo and can be reused for propulsion.

  5. The cost is not the problem. The batteries only hold a charge for 150 mi. and will possible take 5 hr. to recharge.

  6. I've got an electric scooter that costs less than 1 cent per mile to recharge.  Generally, an electric car costs 2 cents per mile to recharge.

In comparison, if you've got a car that getes 30 mpg and gas costs $3/gallon, it costs 10 cents per mile to refuel a normal car.

Driving an electric car would be like driving a Prius back when gas cost $1/gallon.

  7. Marge

Not sure if this answer is going to help you, maybe so though.

The one EV car I currently have (have 2 vehicles that run on hydrogen also) is free to charge. As I live completely off the grid all my electricity comes from solar panels and 2 wind generators, which I built myself for practically free.

However I did charge up at Costco in Carlsbad California (I actually only drove up there to fill up) if I remember right it was around $2.00

Here’s a list of other places you can charge up, don’t know if there are any prices though.

  8. No matter what the charge costs, if you add the amount you are losing on the interest for the money you paid for the car (90,000-100,000). You are actually paying about 100 dollars a week even if you don't drive it. How is that good??

On top of that, all you are doing is moving the pollution from where you live to the power plant.

"Pay More to Pollute More" should be the motto for the Electric Car. The electric car has not and probably will never be cost effective or Pollution Effective when a complete unbiased analysis is made which includes ALL variables from the Power Plant to the Vehicle tires on the road and ALL costs considered.
