Question:

So, when you say that you HATE a team...?

...Do you genuinely hate that team OR do you just say "hate" because it's easier to say that than "strongly dislike"?

Because I really don't "hate" the Yankees. I reserve all my hate for child abusers, murderers...people who actually deserve to be hated. I strongly dislike the Yankees, but I don't hate them.

How about you?

  1. Yea, i agree with you.  Hate is such a smelly word.

So i just use them for more severe and more realistic(dare i say) anomosities.

  2. I say I hate teams but I don't really "hate" them I just don't like seeing them win.

  3. Hate is not in my vocabulary.  I love the Red Sox - Yankee rivalry.  There are many Red Sox players that I have supported over the years.  The fact that I've been a huge advocate of Jim Rice and Dwight Evans being worthy of the hall of fame is only one example of my respect for the game.

I really don't dislike any teams in baseball.  The only team that may come close is the Mets.  The are so "excuse prone".  It's always someone elses fault when they don't come through when it counts.

  4. I say I hate the Red Sox all the time but it is just because it is easier. It is annoying to always go "Well, I don't hate them but I have this very strong dislike for them." Hate is a very strong word. Definitely not a feeling that I can actually feel towards a sports team.

  5. It's just jealousy and harsh words from fake fans, bandwagoners and those that don't know anything about baseball.  True fans like us display these qualities:

    1.  We suffer losses, are disappointed, and do care if we get beat, but will not commit suicide over it.  We'll recover and win the next game!

    2.  Players are the same all over the league, and who knows?  Maybe the players that fake fans and bandwagoners adore will get traded or picked up via free agency by the "enemy".....

    3.  What's there to hate about baseball players?  They're not out committing crimes against humanity, they earn an honest living, they play the game to entertain the crowd and keep the spirit of the game alive and truly care about the fans, no matter where they're playing.

    4.  I don't care for the "keep out of our turf" mentality practiced by fake fans and bandwagoners.  Unless they provide proof that they own the grant deed of the stadium or built it with their own hands, then they're nothing to me because I respect all opposing fans and they have the right to support their team.

    5.  Even the most mediocre benchwarmer or minor leaguer shed more blood, sweat and tears than we have in our lifetimes just to get to sign a contract with any professional baseball organization.  Even if they wear opposing "colors", I fully respect the amount of work they put in to getting to where they are now.

    6.  Mild "dislike" towards the opposition is okay because if your team is losing by 10 runs, what can you do, but it's only a game and your favorite team will pick themselves up and win in the future.  Nothing to get bent out of shape over losing.....

  6. When I say I hate a team, it means I never want to see them win again.  The Red Wings and Packers fit into this category.

  7. When I remember to watch my mouth, I try to say "detest" or "abhor" or "can't stand" or "wouldn't feel anything if their plane crashed" instead of "hate."

    Just to be polite.

  8. I usually use "hate" so I can shorten the amount of words I say or type, but "strongly dislike" is a more accurate description of my feelings towards certain ball clubs.

  9. greta, im passionate about my sports..i still will say i HATE the broncos, sac queens, and angels...but your right- its a different kind of hate.

  10. the yankees have cooties

  11. I wouldn't say I hate the Giants I'd use other words such as Loathe or Despise

  12. When I defend the Dodgers' losses to the Giants this last weekend, I'm genuinely saying that I hate the Giants.

  13. Yes i hate red sox fans because they think that since they have won 2 championships in 4 years that they are the best team to ever play the game. And i hate papelBUM more than any other red suck because of what he said about mariano rivera.

  14. I say that I hate the Yankees.

And I do, in a baseball sense.

What that means is that not only do I want to see them lose, but I want it to be painful when they do.  Like the time that I saw them score ten runs up in fenway, only to have the Sox nibble a way a little at a time until they took a one run lead with six in the eighth.  Then the Yankees came out for the ninth with nothing.  That was great!!

I don't mean that I hate them in the more universal sense.  I don't wish ill upon them or anything like that. That is a very rare emotion that I think I only extended to one guy that i knew.

  15. I'm an avid Yankee fan and I don't hate the Red Sox, because of their huge rivalry with the Yanks.  In fact I actually like the Red Sox when they had Williams, Fisk, etc.  I just HATE the people on the team.  They're so arrogant!  Especially Youkilis.

  16. Yes, when I say "hate" I mean "strongly dislike". I will admit it is much easier to say "hate", and that is why I say it. My hate is saved up for people that I consider "evil" or "bad". I'm a Yankee fan, and I strongly dislike the Sox, but I don't hate their players as people.

  17. Same here Greta i dislike the Red Sox hate is not my word

  18. I don't hate any sports team, but I agree with you that all the hate I have is put toward the same type of people you described. I may dislike some teams but not hate.

  19. Hate is a shorter word.

How can someone hate a team, anyway? Usually "hate" amongst teams is used if you are annoyed by the team's fans or your favorite team is rivals with said team.

  20. Lol, hate is easier to type. No, I don't actually hate the Giants, but I strongly detest them.

  21. In baseball i really don't have a hatred for any team. The closest i would say is the Red Sox but have respect for them. In Football i have a strong hatred for the Cowboys due to the fact their ownership always bring in players who are always in trouble with the law. Them signing Pacman Jones who don't deserve to be back in Football period gave me another reason to hate them.

  22. Hate is just a word that has to be in any real fan's vocabulary...not by literal definitions...but to express how you feel for the opposition. I'd like to think most fans are like me and just love the game while maintaining a healthy favorite to cheer for. That's not the case at all, but it's cute lil thought...

Anyway, when I say I hate the Cubs...it's really to get Cubs fans going cause they're cute when the defend their team. I'm a Chicago area person who has grown to 'hate' Chicago sports teams just because everybody I was around 'loves' them. I've been in southern Indiana for a while now, so I been able to do the same thing with Cardinals fans! Go Reds!

  23. hate is a shorter word that people say just for the h**l of it instead of strong dislike or some other word, i agree with u that u should reserve ur hate for child abusers murderers etc. but i strongly dislike the yankees but ive said i hated them before cause its easier to say then strongly dislike

  24. Instead of "hate" I think it is classified better as a "Desire for that team to Lose"

For instance, I don't hate the Yankees or Rays as a Red Sox fan. But I do look at their box scores and have a desire to see that they lost the night before.

Plus, you can't enjoy something you hate, and I enjoy every aspect of baseball, especially a tight division race that goes down to the wire.

  25. Yeah, I think it's a shorter word and easier to say, I actually don't hate any teams, they don't (like you said) deserve to be hated. I strongly dislike some teams, but don't hate them. Good question. I agree with you, to reserve the hates fore murders and other people that deserve to be hated.

  26. im an astros fan(yes im aware we suck) and yes i "hate" the cardinals and braves

although i hate murderers and rapists WAY more and i think the death penalty should be brought back and it should be much more painful :)

  27. I definitely don't actually hate the Yankees, I just dislike them. But I would rather love to love the Red Sox than love to hate the Yankees. I think most people love to hate their rival more than they love to love their own team. I strongly dislike the Yankees but I'm not going to let it get in the way of my passion for the Sox. And yeah, save the hate for those who kill, harm, and destroy lives.

To the guy below me: You were clearly just manipulated by the media if you think Papelbon insulted Mariano. Get your facts straight.

  28. Lol yea it just rolls off the tongue better.

I strongly dislike those bosox.  meh it doesn't sound as good i hate those d**n red socks haha.

Also you really get up in the moment at times and that's the only thing you can mutter

  29. i don't say "hate" i say "dislike" I think "hatred" is a very strong emotion so unless you're a murderer, rapist, hitler then i'm not going to use it.

ehh i don't want to "hate" anybody or a team

i dislike the Boston Red Sox i don't hate them..
