So Barry George is free after being found innocent ....

But what do you think the police should now do about Jill Dando's murder? Is it practical to reopen the case after ten years especially as their first, intensive investigation led them only to Barry George. Or can they simply say that they won't be looking for anyone else? What do you think should happen?

  1. Going on his past history they should continue keeping a close watch on him until the day he dies! How many women has he harassed? How many more should he be allowed to torment? The man needs sectioning to prevent him doing anything else! He's a menace and a danger to females and that should be enough to get him off the streets with his past record! Mind you - is there a MALE Judge who would do that????? No, i don't think so - some of them think a woman wearing nice clothes and high heels are justified 'game' for perverts! I wonder sometimes about the old saying - 'it takes one to know one' and the other old adage - survival of the species!

Edit: Just who or 'what' have i offended on here? No-one in their right mind is goiing to defend someone with his terrible record of violence and intimidation against women surely?

He should have been locked away years ago!

If he runs true to form then it won't be too long before he either attacks a woman or intimidates someone to the extent that they call in the Police - would you want to be that officer? Would you want to be that victim? Would you want that victim to be yourself, your mother, your sister or your daughter?

  2. Regardless of what we may think of George, the man was imprisoned for 9 years of his life for nothing. We set a dangerous precedent, if we start locking up people for crimes just because they fit the bill for the crime. Yes he had a history of stalking and abusing woman, but to take away an innocent mans freedom is unjust. I too would like to see miss Dando's assailant arrested and charged. But that's up to the police to now re open and try and identify the perpretator. thank goodness we dont have the death penalty.

  3. I think they should reopen the case a murderer is out there somewhere and they need to pay for what they have done.

  4. Barry George spent 8 years in prison for something he didn't do.I hope he sues for 60 million dollars. That poor man must of suffered greatly in prison.I bet he will never be able to pick up a bar of soap without looking behind him first.

  5. I think the case should be reopened as Jill Dandos family need closure.

Instead of the police trying to frame the local drop out, they should actually do what they are payed for, stop been lazy and look further a field for the killer.

And those that made this gross misjudgement should be brought before the courts and prosecuted as an Innocent man been jailed for 8 years is simply unacceptable regardless of him been a waste of space or not,the Police or CPS need to be held accountable :)

  6. It's a cold case now...but I think they will uncover evidence if they dig hard enough.  There seems to be no forensic evidence, or indeed very little, but an awful lot of witness accounts.  Sightings of many men who seemed to be expressing an interest in her that day.

    1. Serbian plot

    2. Mad stalker

    3. Domestic murder

    Which one is it?

And Helen, I agree that this Barry George character is certainly a 24 carat creep, but not a murderer, and I'm sure he'll s***w up and come to the authorities attention again. But, he does not seem bright enough, or lucky enough to have pulled off this audacious 'hit'

  7. Barry George was originally found quilty and lost 2 appeals, although he was freed by his latest trial he still has a lot to answer for. His 8 years was not even half enought for this .

  8. They should reopen the case, but personally i still think he did it.

  9. I still like to know how many people walk around with firearms residue in their pockets that matches up with that on the victim. The man is a very suspicious character but it seems his character played a large part on him being found innocent?

  10. he hasnt  been found innocent, he has  been found not guilty, theres a difference

  11. They have to say they're doing something, even if they're not.

  12. Well I imagine they will have to re-open the case, as the law has deemed Barry George innocent so someone killed her. I was never convinced it was him anyway but hopefully there will be some closure and justice for her family.
