So Brilliant will skip the CashCall but Baffert has enough fire power to replace the loss
Unbeaten in 2 starts, So Brilliant, a 2-year-old Bob Baffert trainee will go on to miss the Grade 1, $750,000 CashCall Futurity because of an elevated temperature according to trainer Bob Baffert.
The CashCall Futurity is a grade 1 event for 2-year-olds run over at 1 1/16 miles over the Hollywood Park’s cushion track.
Trainer Bob Baffert’s contingent for the CashCall Futurity is a little depleted, but he still has three CashCall possibilities in the form of the Real Quiet Stakes winner, Liaison, with him Baffert plans to run Drill, the winner of the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity
on 7 September, 2011.
Then he has the unknown, recent maiden special winner in third asking, Sky Kingdom, at Hollywood Park on 24 November, 2011, at about 1 1/16 miles and along the way he defeated Candy’s Jewel in second place followed by Treacherous in third, while he covered
the 1 1/16 mile distance in 1 minute and 43.98 seconds.
On 11 December, ahead of the CashCall, Bob Baffert worked Liaison and Sky Kingdom in tandem as they worked six furlongs in 1 minute and 11.80 seconds. The work at the distance was recorded as the fastest of 37. Drill, was then called out to turn in his five
furlongs ahead of the big race for juvenile colts, which he gladly covered in 1 minute flat.
Despite good works from Liaison and Sky Kingdom in company, Bob Baffert said he was impressed with Drill’s work, where he went half a mile in 47 seconds on 5 December. Martin Garcia got the nod to ride Drill in the CashCall Futurity.
Though Baffert has plenty in the stable to go out and replace So Brilliant, but the Kentucky bred son of Medaglia d’Oro, out of mare Merry Me in Spring by Wekiva Springs, will be missed especially after exiting a victory in the Grade 3 Hollywood Prevue Stakes
at about seven furlongs.
The Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint winner, Secret Circle, will not represent Bob Baffert in the CashCall Futurity because he is being saved by trainer for major dirt races to come next year.
