I'm a tutor... and I work super hard making sure that I teach these kids everything they'll need to know for the future. I teach reading, writing, math, piano, and spanish and I've been working for them for like a year and now I'm starting to have to drive them around to and fro wherever. It's been like a year and I'm thinking I should ask for a raise..

How much should I ask for?

P.S. I get paid 11/hr

  1. Not only do you deserve a raise but a pat on the back also. Negotiate and then ask for a mileage allowance as a taxi service.

  2. It sounds like your being more like a baby sitter!  You should talk to their parents and tell them that it isnt worth your time to take them around when tutoring is your job. DO NOT FEEL LIKE YOU BEING DIFFICULT AND DONT BE SHY! This is one of the WORST things you could do in your condition. Be sure to let them know that you are there for ONE purpose, and ONE purpose only and that if they want you to do your job to the fullest you need more time and/more cash. Stand up for your self and hope for the best! You get paid for tutoring, not babysitting. I would be asking around 15 an hour ( $4 more makes a HUGE diffrence!) HOPE I HELPED! BEST OF LUCK

  3. Whether you can get paid more depends on your experience.  Are you a professional teacher, a graduate student, or a high school student?  If the former, you can definitely ask for more, but if you are still in school yourself, you just may not be able to command a greater hourly wage.

The driving doesn't make sense.  Are you being paid at the same rate for driving as you are for tutoring, or are you doing this on your own time?  Driving normally does not command as much money as tutoring, so if they are paying you at your usual rate for driving, it may be a sign that you could ask for more for the tutoring.  If you aren't being paid for it, then you are being taken for granted.  They see you as one of the kids' friends, and that will frankly make it difficult to get a raise.

  4. with the cost of gas money your getting ripped off

i would say a raise of $13.50/ hour

  5. my first ? is why are you driving them around most tutors the child comes to them an if the child cant the tutor comes to the house an charges EXTRA or picks them up an chargers EXTRA . id say if ur driving them about 15 to 16 dollers a hour or charge a extra fee depending on the distance you drive them  . ur not runing a taxi service ! dont let people do that to you especially with the way gas prices are

  6. You're startin to become more of a babysitter then......maybe another 2 or 3 dollars....depending on how much or how far you're having to drive them

  7. well if you are driving them around places, you should at least have your gas paid for you.  as a tutor why would you drive them around places anyway?
