Apparently I'm nearsighted and I'm gonna need to get glasses seeing as I'm starting high school and I'm not able to see the board and write down notes and such... Anyone got anything they wanna tell me about glasses? I've never worn glasses before or anything so people might make fun of me or something.. =/

  1. lol I have never had glasses however my lil bro has glasses and there's not all that much to worry about. They feel weird at first but you get used to them and as long as you don't touch the lenses then you don't have to worry about cleaning them that much AND you shouldn't sleep with them on because you can bend them or scratch them

And as far as the teasing i really don't think there's much to worry about no one really picks on ppl for glasses anymore. And if they do just act like it doesn't bother you and say things like "I know I hate them" Or just laugh and walk away.

    Good luck <3 =]

  2. I have worn glasses since grade two my advice is pick your own glasses pick some that you like that are comfy and make you feel good, i would suggust lenscrafters they are great, the first time i got glasses i didn't know what to get so i let my brother pick... big mistake good luck and once you start wearing them it becomes habbit, don't worrie about high school, i mean its not like every single person from your elemntry school is going there half the people will not know weither you just got glasses or have had them for years you know high scool isn't that bad with glasses good luck

  3. i had glasses for a short time in second grade, and they felt REALLY weird, and i kept on taking them off. i eventually switched to contacts, though.

  4. meh, its no big deal.  when i got mine no one even made any kind of big stink about it.  like, they went "woah" the first day i had them then after that no one really cared.  its not a big thing.

the only advice i can give is make sure you have a good place to put them when your not wearing them so they dont get scratched, and do not clean them with any kind of fabric that is even remotly scratchy.

oh, and when you go to pick out your glasses, make sure you have a friend you trust with you to tell you what looks good or not, cause they dialated my eyes the day i had to pick mine out and it made it so hard to judge what looked good on me. luckly i have a friend who came with who would never steer me wrong and now i have great frames that look absolutly perfect on me

  5. nobody really makes fun of glasses anymore as long as they are cute. :]

  6. I have worn glasses for the past 5 years and have gone through around 3 pairs of them, but recently switched to contacts, which are absolutely wonderful.  However, you do see things a bit sharper with glasses, but you don't have the full 360 all around vision with glasses. THey only show you what's in front of you, so to see what's to your sides clearly you would have to turn your head.

Wearing glasses will feel strange at first, and you will definitely get a strange...not exactly tickly, but weird feeling in your nose wear your nose bridge is. The feeling will wear off after a few days/2-3 weeks, but it will be weird. And everything will look REALLY clear for the first few days and you will feel like your eyes are a bit overloaded with details of everything (you'll be able to see everything down to the minutest detail), but eventually you will get used to it.

Glasses are great for seeing, but they are a bit of a nuisance when it comes to sports, especially lax and basketball. And also for dressing up for dinners or dances. You will often find that you look prettier without glasses.

Be careful with your glasses because they are pretty fragile. When cleaning them, use the cloth that comes with your case, the smooth silky one because the lenses can be scratched quite easily. Also, my old glasses had a steel frame to it, and though I've dropped them quite a few times they haven't broken or scratched badly at all, so consider getting a steel frame. It's a bit heavier, but it helps.

As for glasses frames, frameless would cosmetically usually be the best, but since this is your first pair, I would wait. Get a half-frame, i.e. the bottom half has no frame, only the top part is rimmed. Those usually are quite nice. Ask your eyeglasses specialist to tell you which frames are in style now and find one & a color that matches your face. Usually your frame should be the color of your eyes.

And MANY people have glasses, so it's nothing to be ashamed about. Ignore people who make fun of you --> they're just jealous :)

But if it really bothers you... consider switching to contacts when you're 18. It's hard at first to get used to taking them off and putting them in... but trust me, it's totally worth it :)

And unless you already are treated like a dork (which I doubt you are), you'll look great in glasses. Just get a nice pair, people will tell you that you look different and they won't be sure whether they like it or not, but they'll get used to it. And then whenever you take your glasses off, they'l be like "whoa you look weird without your glasses now" so you'll be fine. :)

Umm... that's about all I can think of at the moment... if you have anymore questions, feel free to ask & I'll answer them as soon as possible. Good luck, and hope they turn out okay!

  7. i got glasses last year.

i thought everyone would make fun of me too.

just get some realy cool/cute frames. and then you will get compliments on how they love your glasses.

so u can be stylish and be able to see. ;)

  8. naww... you should get glasses that really show your personality, so that they sort of become a part of you. if you don't feel like glasses are you, maybe you should wear contacts. also, you should choose your glasses by your face shape (round= rectangular, square=rounder/oval, oval=ANYTHING {LUCKY!!!}).

    hope that helps!=]

  9. That's why i wear contacts.

  10. OF course not!

  11. K i jus got glasses also and i have the same thing as you! And they are not bad dont worry about it. As long as u pick some really nice looking glasses they can look super gorgeous on you if ya pick the right ones. I suggest the rectangualr ones, not square or circle, they look sorta nerdy. And they help you in life so they r worth it believe me, I would go to lenscrafters, they have some nice glasses, and yea ppl wont be rude, glasses are glasses no big deal and lotza ppl have them! And they make ya look smart tu haha. So ya good luck! hope this helps ( and at first they feel weird but then they just feel like they r part of your body)
