Is this a good idea or bad idea?

Make the All-Star race on SATURDAY night, before the Coca-Cola 600.

It's not that long of an event, and plus our boys are in such good conditioning I don't think this would be a problem for any of them.. and I really think half of them would agree w/ me.

There is no reason to have an off point weekend just for the All-Star race. Move the start time an hour back if needed, and there is NO TRAVELING between races so they should get all the rest they need right? I mean what's the difference in doin' THIS IDEA, and the group that runs Cup, Nationwide, and even Craftsman races the whole weekend?

And if your only rebuttal is "Thats the night before the longest race of the year!".. then lets put the race before Darlington the weekend before!!! or dover the weekend after!!

  1. That's what I thought what did happen. but the drivers would hate it. The whole reason they like the All-Star Race is so that they don't have to worry about points. Plus it would cost too much money to do it in one weekend. I see what you're saying, and the fans love their racing. But what would the drivers think of that?

  2. Well that is a novel idea but it isn't going to happen 1 the only way there will be any other races added to the schedule is if a track gets built in NY city, the Denver area, or the Pacific NW. 2 the all star race is held when it is because that is when Nascar wants to hold it and they see no reason to move it. Plus it is done that way specifically because of the 600 I don't remember why anymore but that is one main reason for the timing of it.

  3. It's my understanding that the drivers and teams love spending 2 weeks in Charlotte.  Most of them live around there, and get to have some well-deserved "at home" time.

Stuff often happens during the All-Star race that gets drivers pretty p.o.'d at each other.  Might be a good idea to let them have some time to cool off before the big race.

  4. And what's the point of your idea here?

To add another track?  I'd much rather see a California, Pocono, or Dover lose a second date for a new track than see them run the All Star Race on the same weekend as another race.

edit: How in the world does who I root for have any affect on my personal dislike for one track or another??

  5. BAD

    HOPE ITS YOUR LAST TIME

  6. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that a lot of people plan trips around this. They get to Lowes on a Saturday morning and they stay there for about 8 days or so. It gives Concord , NC an entire week of tourism.

  7. Naaaa.  I'm from NC myself and my hubby and I make it a "trip" and camp the whole week between the All-Star race and the CC600.  Its lots of fun for fans and so many fun things going on during the week in the Charlotte area thats revolved around racing.  I like it the way it is.
