Did you mean Izmir? Lotsa ruins: there's the Agora, an old Roman marketplace; the Velvet Castle is on a hill overlooking the city; and the ruins of biblical Ephesus are a short drive away. Many churches take tours to the ruins in that area of the Seven Churches in Asia Minor (in the Book of Revelation): Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. There are also wonderful thermal baths (like Mammoth Hot Springs) at Pammukkale.

Oops. You said Icmeler. There wasn't much there 30 years ago...just Marmaris. Med coast is gorgeous, and lotsa ruins there, too!

If your mum likes ruins, she'll love Knidos (western end of the Datca peninsula). Also within reach are Ephesus, Priene, Didyma, Miletus, etc. They may not be shady though!

Dont worry, you can find plenty of stuff for fun.I came back last week from Turkey and I had so much fun that I cant write all of them.Now state look like so dull to me.
