But I'm technology illiterate so, for vocals would this be sufficient for practicing? http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/VSM300XT/ and then just buy a good mic? Any guidance would be much appreciated...

  2. Yes that would be fine but make sure you buy a good mic cos crappy mics jusr ruin your whole band

That puppy's 150 watts, which is quite a bit more than you'd need for vocals, I should think.  I'm a bass player and my 50 watt amp does the job for most gigs (except outdoor).  I'd reccomend the Shure SM58 mic for vocals; it's an extremely solid mic used by professionals, but still quite cheap.  Sorry I can't suggest anything amp wise.
