  1. ♦Nerbone serves great panino con bollito (boiled beef sandwich). Stall #292, 1st Floor, Mercato Centrale (Central Market), entrance on Via dell'Ariento. Perini's Deli can burst your picnic basket, but not your wallet. They sell everything from prosciutto Toscana, cheese, wild boar meat sauce, marinated olives, sundried tomatoes, and whatever antipasti you can think of. They can vacuum-pack for you. They're also generous with their free samples.

    ♦Ristorante della Strada

is a five-minute walk from the river Arno coming from Ponte alla Carraia. Order the Menu Toscano consisting of mixed appetizers, salad, and a 500-gram Florentine steak. Drink Chianti with your meal and finish off with a glass of Vin Santo and biscotti. You can do a takeaway, but why miss the ambience? Unless you made reservations, be there when it opens at 7p.m.

62 R Via della Strada, Florence, Italy.

    Buon appetito! <*-*>

  2. I agree, I do the same when I visit a new town, look for some place "not for tourist".

I remember a restaurant in Florence, named Il Latini (Via dei Palchetti 6r) ask to someone  for the street.

I suggest you to order the "Ribollita" and the "Pappa al Pomodoro" they are delicious and not just pasta.

They'll  bring  to you at the end of the lunch, including in the price  some typical Tuscany cookies, with a glass of wine, you have to eat them, put into the wine. WOW

I forgot. They don't accept reservation so you have to go there at noon and you can see the row of people waiting,

I found also these rest on web, but I don't know about them

  3. 1. Don't rely on tourist guides. I have awful experiences with restaurants, which are listed in Lonely Planet (Rome). They became a gold mine with poor service.

    2. I learn to ask domestic people, they know the best. But you can expect taxi drivers and hotel stuff have deals with some restaurants.

  4. Hi, I live in Italy but not in Florence.  My best bet is not to rely too much on tourist guides.  Ask the locals or the hotel staff you are staying at to help you out.  They know from experience which restaurants are appreciated and liked.  I work in a hotel and you wouldn't immagine how many times I send clients to certain restaurants that are not on the tourist guides, and when they come back they are always satisfied.  Ask which restaurants serve traditional local cuisine and are not jam packed with foreign tourists.
