I plan to spend 3 days in Rome, the 4th morning on a journey to Pisa (spending 2-3 hours there), then onto Florence, where I spend a night, then the next day on a journey to Venice, where I will be till night.

Could you suggest a good mode of transport? ie. Bus which charter these routes? What about trains? Is there a pass allowing me to visit all of Italy in 5 days? I am travelling on a limited budget though so I would prefer bus services.

And I do not need comments on how stupid my idea sounds like, it is condescending and not helpful at all. I have pretty much made up my mind.

  1. When if Rome, recommend taking any walking tour; very worhtwhile and informative.  You'll do a lot of walking, but well worth it.  Look at fodors.com for best things to do, see and eat in Rome.

As for travel, I recommend train.  It's just as economical as a bus, but way more comfortable, plus you can eat and drink.

I agree with the first answer; Venice is a bit of a let down.  The only thing it has to offer is the canals, and they have quite the odor about them.

  2. take hop on hop off bus tour of rome, 2 days for rome and one day for vatican, so 3 days is enough for rome.

use train (www.trenitalia.com) for travel from rome to florence.

trains are better, bus is slow and not so cheap as u may think.

i would suggest u go to florence (firenze)  from roma, keep ur luggage in hotel in florence n take train to pisa and back (travel time 1 hr one way n ticket will cost 8 euros or so one way).

florence to venezia, again by train

if u wanna save money , try to avoid using eurostar trains esp between rome to florence and florence to venice. there are slower trains which are much cheaper, u have to ask for them specifically

  3. To see all Italy in 5 days? No way ! In Rome I'll suggest you hotel Eurostars International Palace -via Nazionale no.46. It's a very well located one, so you can visit a lot of main beauties of Rome, just walking. From the hotel, the first day you can visit: Il Vittoriano, Plazza Venezia, Plazza de Spagna, Trevi Fountain, Plazza Navonna and the Pantheon. The second day will be for the Vatican and the third for the Colosseum and the mains Basilicas from Rome. The best mode of transport is the train. I wish you a wonderful trip !

  4. go shopping visit the collosium ect one day.

next spend three days in Ischia, an island off the coast of naples. you can take a boat from rome to there. i has good food, hotels, and great beaches. next go to naples for a day and shop and visit around and EATTT. then taxi or train up to tuscany and finish your trip there.

  5. In europe, at least my experience (although its been almost 20 years) is that trains are the way to go.

there are usually quite affordable plans available that would probally allow you to see alot if not all of the country in 5 days, as well  as giving you the possibilty to see a little of austria and germany.

not to be a negative "nay sayer", cuz i agree with you that it is a very unhelpful thing in yahoo answers, but i will give you a warning, don't get your hopes up on venice.

my personal opinion, but it was definately my least favorite location i visited in living in europe for 6 years.

but all in all, i would say check out the rails vs charter busses.  with a little research the rails give you far better flexibility, seeing as most lines run 24-7 and enable you to hop off if you find a small spot that looks interesting and then catch a later train a few hours later to keep on rolling.

  6. www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe

add what city you want to travel there and get information

  7. Trains are definitely your best bet. The trip from Rome to Florence is like 15E and less between Florence and Pisa.

Within  the cities there is ample cheap transportation. In Rome there are 2 subway lines which are cheap and easy to navigate but you can basically walk anywhere you want to go. Florence I don't think I got on any public transportation because it was easy to walk around and a pure joy. Pisa too is small and can be walked but there bus is very cheap and it got me to the airport on time so I have no complaints.

Good for you for not listening to nay-sayers. Of course it would be awesome to have a ton of time in each city but you have to sieze  the opportunity and enjoy every second that you have there.

    In bocca al lupo!
