  1. Talk about you experience and be careful not to say anything embarrasing.

  2. I just happened to attend a job interview workshop so I have a lot of information quite handy. I'm not too sure what you mean by "besides the obvious." I'll skip over makeup and attire, but I'll try to get some of the other things in.

They suggested that you do some research on the company, if you haven't done so already. Look them up on Google or on their own website. Find out what their mission statement is, details about the company so that you can really be in the know and come off very knowledgeable and to show that you are truly interested.

Don't chew gum, don't wear perfume. Try to arrive about 10 to 15 minutes early. You should also review your resume before going in, just in case they ask about something that's on there and you aren't quite sure what they're referencing. It's also good to bring an extra copy or two with you just in case. Review the job posting just so you know exactly what to expect.

Whatever you do, DON'T ASK about salary compensation on the first interview. If they call you back or you are pretty confident that they want you on board, that's the time to ask about compensation, benefits, vacations, etc. If you do ask it will seem like you are only worried about the salary and if you are not satisfied with what they are offering, you might go elsewhere. Leave that for future interactions with your interviewer.

If by chance they do ask you what you expect your salary to be, try to be indirect. "I really would like to learn more about the position and about the company before I give an estimate." If they insist, give a range that you might expect. Do some research on similar positions and find a range that most people get paid doing the same type of work. If the range is typically 30k to 40k, you may want to lowball it (obviously depending on your qualifications. If you feel you are very qualified you may want to try getting a higher number. It might work, but it might also risk your chances of getting the job). So for example, instead of saying 30k to 40k, you might say you expect 28k to 36k. If you want, do mention that you have done research and others in the same type of job earn approximately within [x] range. (See the references for websites for salary websites.)

Lastly, if the interviewer asks if you have any questions for him/her, do have some questions prepared. Interviewers dislike it when the interviewee doesn't have any questions.  Some sample questions could be:

"What do you like about working here?"

"How long have you been working here?"

"Could you tell me about the team?"

"What is your managerial style?" - if applicable.

Hope some of this helped.  Good luck!
