  1. NO!  Nothing is supposed to be sticking out but about half of the string... the reason for the discomfort you're feeling is that every move your legs or belly muscles make is rubbing the tampon against the most sensitive tissues inside your v****a.   The tissues further in are less sensitive and less likely to move, *and* getting the tampon in that far places it pretty much right against your cervix which puts it right where it'll soak blood up soonest (less likelihood of leaks).

Helpful advice (beyond the semi-useless package directions)? Yeah... just three things:

    1) Aim the tampon more towards your back than upwards... (your v****a actually goes *back* for more than half of its length, not just up)... and make sure the tampon goes in as far as you can get it while still keeping hold on the bottom of the applicator (or as far as your index finger can push it if it's one without an appplicator).

    2) It'll be easier to do the first time if things are slippery "down there", so don't wipe away any blood and stuff until you've got the tampon in place. If there's very little blood there, just smear a couple of drops of saliva on the tip of the tampon (or its applicator if it has one) and it'll make things a lot more comfortable.

    3) Relaxation is important. If relaxing isn't easy for you, try pushing just a little bit as if you're trying to p**p or pee... your pelvic muscles will relax a bit and that will help a *lot*.

There's an OK video instruction about it at

... just click on the "click here" link in the third paragraph of the page.

  2. You're supposed to squat and slide it in.  Nothing should be hanging out, that's what's uncomfortable.

  3. tilt it to the back. and the skirt should not be sticking out. take it out and try again, and put some lube on the tampon, like KY jelly. there should be directions in the tampon box

  4. The only thing that should be sticking out is the string

  5. all of the answers are right but u have to be relaxed also
