And I need a root canal done ASAP! Oh darn. I am 5 and a half months pregnant and not too happy about this- did anyone else have this done while pregnant?

  1. I have not had a root canal while pregnant but have had a filling - I was also a dental assistant and there are more risks to letting your tooth decay than actually getting the "Novocain" and having the procedure done - decay is caused by bacteria and if left untreated could enter your bloodstream and cause alot of problems for you and the baby - since you are out of your first trimester there is no problem with getting this done. Hope this helps and good luck - it is more annoying than anything else (i had a root canal before i was pregnant)

  2. omg yaaa, i did

  3. I had a filling done but opted not to have numbing because of the risks. It hurt so i cant imagine anything worse!

  4. Better to have it done than to let the infection run through your bloodstream... and therefore your baby's bloodstream.

  5. Yes. You can have all the local anesthetic you want. It doesn't hurt the baby - "local" means it acts on a small area, and hardly any of it goes into your blood stream. The amount that does absolutely will not harm your baby.

It's more dangerous to let the tooth sit there as it is, risking infection, which CAN end up being a risk to your child's health.

Just talk to your dentist if you are still worried. They are professionals and they know what is safe to use on pregnant women.
