  1. Um, some very preliminary reports from extremely pro-Georgian sources are making this claim, but I wouldn't hold much stock by them. In fact all sorts of wild claims have been made about Russian actions since this started, and almost all have turned out to be unfounded rumours so far.

I think Georgia's poor judgement in picking a fight with Russia is going to result in Abkhazia and South Ossetia becoming de-facto parts of Russia, nothing more. At lest that's my take at this point, but yes, wars can sometimes spread no doubt.

  2. Georgia started the conflict by a military offensive into Ossetia.  They wanted to maintain control of this province that prefers to be alligned with Russia.  Russia retaliated with brute force, but what would you expect?  Now another province, Abkhazia, is pushing for independence from Georgia and it seems the conflict is extending even further.  So, yes I do believe that in the days and weeks to come, Russia will assert its superior military strength even more.  I hope Bush and Cheney don't make things worse by provoking Russia with their vague threats and tough talk confrontations.

  3. Did Bush say something to start this ?

  4. they sure are.

  5. Deffinetly. Russia wants to show of their power to the rest of the world and now they have a somewhat "reasonable" reason to do so. They will take full advantage of that. Russia will have fun with this for a while.
