and I know that some of you, along with me, had high hopes for the sisters to start dominating tennis again since they are in excellent shape. What do you think will happen now? Do you think they will bounce back in time for the olympics and the U.S. Open? Or bounce back in general?

  1. It seems like just minor injuries they both have at the moment. Venus says she plans to play the Rogers Cup, Olympics and US Open, and as of this writing, Serena is still expected to play at the $600,000 Carson tournament that begins Monday.

I am sure they will both bounce back successfully. I am sure these latest injury setbacks must be disappointing for them but they don't seem too bothered by it, so I am sure that they will be dominating once again.

  2. link, please.

    didnt know they were injured!

  3. i doubt they would be fit for olmpics

  4. frankly,i never had any hopes,by virtue of that one, lone performance, they would automatically return to dominating form. i knew this would most likely be the case yet again. we saw this in years past, one or the other, they have one brilliant run and the next weeks will have some sort of injury or they just would not show up mentally. they just have not been consistent enough for me to expect anything completely remarkable. and i agree with michael n.,injured or not,the top girls and even those ranked much lower are playing better than when they dominated those years. so for me,it's much disillusioned to put that much hope onto them again.

so i dunno what will happen in the next weeks. depends on if they decide they want to show up or their injuries aren't that serious. i really feel,in spite of the early losses at wimby, maria, ana, jelena and even svetlana are still the players to watch.....they are stellar hard courters and since they have had some time to recover the last weeks, they may come back totally rejuvenated and prepared.

  5. I know Serena is injured she retired from her watch against wazanakica (sorry wrong spelling) lol ! But Venus ?! Is she injured..... post a link please.

  6. yup, hope they'll be fine :(

    go William!

  7. well, they have plenty of time to get over there injurie or whatever is ailing them now... with justine henin out it really gives them more chance to dominate again..

but at the US OPEN they seem to fall short, they are more prone to losing there, either that or ailing with some sort of injury or fatigue...... none of the sisters have won a US open for many years..... last year they were having a good run but fell to justine henin...

  8. thats really coincidental that they both r injured. they will bounce back and play well. They can do it!

  9. Look, I am a fan of the Williams sisters and they are brilliant but they will never dominate tennis again. The reason why they have kept playing is because they play few tournaments and any sign of injury they withdraw-I am not criticising! We have seen the likes of Henin and Clijsters retire young because they play through the pain and play a full schedule. The Williams sisters don't do this. They will win the Grand Slams but I don't see either returning to no.1 in the world.

  10. I don't think they'll dominate like they did from 2000-2003, regardless of any injuries.  They will have their moments, like at Wimbledon last month, but the rest of the tour has improved, and they've both declined somewhat since their era of dominance.  As for the immediate future, it's too soon to tell.  One minute they seem like they're totally back in shape and contending for grand slams, and then the next minute they're both injured.  Unfortunately it's  been a song we've all heard before.  If marginally healthy by the time the Olympics and U.S. Open start, they should be in the mix of favorites, but we'll just have to wait and see.

  11. Those darn knees, yet again!  Along with Davenport. Perhaps from our countries over amount of time spent on hard courts. Clearly. they are wanting to contend, but theirinjuries are preventing them. I only hope they miraculously can rebound and get on court and move comfortabely and demonstarte their winning ways. At same time, this is why I have said often, that American Tennis ( and not just the women) are on a downfall. Injuries aside, but slowly age and personal affairs are getting to be a key factor, and we have no up and comers to speak of. Not main title contenders anyway.
