  1. Yes, it was.

It's a great honor to make it the finals, even if it only makes you footnote to the Red Wing dynasty.

But really, the Pens have a solid young nucleus.   This playoff experience could end up being invaluable to guys like Crosby & Fleury, should they build around this properly in the future.   The Pens could very well disappear, but you might also be seeing a team like the '95 Red Wings who were swept in the finals, but came back strong a couple years later and every year since.

    Only time will tell.

  2. Hossa actually did alot in the playoffs, he had 12goals and 14 assists for a total of 26 points, and had the best +/- on the team (tied with Ryan Whitney) of +8. Though I did (and do) love Colby Armstrong (...a lot), I think Hossa did more then him and Erik Christenson would have done in the playoffs. You can never know what would have happened though...

  3. yeah for what they made the trade for. they couldn't have beat the redwings even if i was praying like mad for an upset, and as much as i like army and eric lol and the deposit i think it was an alright trade.

if he stays there it'll be good for them.

if he doesn't they'll still be the pens and they'll look forward. it doesn't matter rehashing what was done in the past unless hossa had ended up being a total bust, which he wasn't.

rehashing is only for the leafs fans.

  4. Yes Hossa was worth it, as was Dupuis. Hossa is an all around good player and will make an impact where ever he ends up, hopefully in Pittsburgh.

  5. The Penguins probably would have still made the finals without Hossa, considering how they bulldozed through the first three rounds, yet Hossa was still worth it.

    1.  For so many years, Penguin fans have prayed for Craig Patrick to land a big name player on the trade deadline.  Afterall, he did so during the two cup years.  But every year after that, he didn't bring in a legitimate DIFFERENCE maker.  Instead, we were graced with the names of Beranek, Corbet, Sean Pronger, Wayne Primeau.  I can't tell you how surprised I was when I was scrolling down the list of players traded during this years deadline, saw the name "Marion Hossa" accompanied by the Penguins logo.  At first it registered as some Marcel Hossa, but it was the real deal, Marion Hossa!  This psyched up Penguin fans everywhere, because they knew they were gunning for the cup.  Continuing to sell out every home game of the season and playoffs.  Talk about morale!

    2.  Hossa was a DIFFERENCE maker.  He can change the outcome of any game, much like Crosby, and Malkin can.  Colby and Erik were liked, but they weren't producing offense, and don't change the outcome of games.  NOW, some of you will say "hockey is more than just offense" and so on...... How hard is it to score in the playoffs?  Very Hard.  How hard is it to score in the Finals?  Extremely Hard.  Look at the score of the first two games when the Pens were shut out!  The Penguins needed as much offensive ability as possible in the playoffs to increase their chances of scoring.  Without Hossa's 24 pts, Penguins would have scored far fewer goals and would have had a tougher time making the finals.

    3.  Hossa is a great two-way forward.  Other great two-way forwards, Datsyuk, and Zetterberg.  These are the most beneficial players come playoff time.

    4.  Hossa will be testing the market, but that doesn't mean he will sign with another team.  He wants to see what else is out there, which is perfectly reasonable.  I know all of us Pittsburgh fans want our players to bleed black and gold and be as hardcore about the the team as we are, but even Joey Porter was cut by the Steelers.  When he's on the ice, Hossa will give it his all, but when free agency comes up, the Penguins aren't his religion.

  6. Hossa was definately worth it.  He made some big goals for us.  We may of not of won the cup, but he brought alot of offense to the team.  There is still a chance he could sign with the Pens July 1st or later.  Colby Armstrong and Eric Christensen were popular with the Pens fans (except me)  They didn't bring alot of offense to the team and Christensen had his skills in the shootouts.  Angelo Esposito hasn't proved anything since he got drafted. Failing to make Team Canada this year.  And seeing how the Pens wouldn't of drafted until 29th pick this year, that draft pick wasn't a big loss to them.

  7. I'm torn.

On the one hand, I think it was a good trade, and I don't see the Pens making it to the finals without him.  He was a key piece and meshed with Crosby quite nicely.

But on the other hand, if they are not able to re-sign him, then I think the trade was very lopsided and the Pens gave up too much for a 3-month player.  If he stays around, the deal is definately worth it.

  8. it got them to the finals. i dont think they would have made it without he and Dupuis.

  9. Really depends on how Espisito and the draft pick turn out.

  10. Since it doesn't look like he will sign with the Pens, I have to say no it was not worth it.

Of course if they would have won the Cup, then it would have the best decision ever made regardless of what they gave-up.

  11. Yes, because he had a veteran presence among the young players. He also contributed offensively when the Penguins needed him.

  12. YES!, didnt Hossa have 24 pts in the playoffs?

EricC and ColbyA probably get 1/2 that combined.

Hossa + Stanely Cup run = perfect trade

  13. I may dislike Hossa & absolutely adore Crusher and Army, but i give credit to Hossa for everything he's done for the Penguins. Hossa scored more points than Colby and Erik could have scored combined together if they were on the team..  Hossa was traded here to take us to the SCF and that's exactly what he did. We may not have won it all, but we don't only have Hossa to blame.

  14. Yes, he helped us go far in the Playoffs.

  15. I actually DON'T think they would have made the finals without him. JMHO

  16. Definitely.

The whole point at the trade deadline is to either acquire a top talent for the CURRENT Cup run or to acquire building blocks for the future.  The Penguins were clearly done rebuilding and were looking for that one top talent (or depth help, etc.) to help in their quest to go all the way.  Hossa was the best available forward at the deadline and they had to give what they gave to acquire the best.  Shero wasn't thinking "how am i going to afford these players after the season", but more along the lines of, "what else can i do to help this team go all the way now?"  I'd have to think that in the end Hossa more than did his part as a deadline acquisition for the Penguins.

  17. It didn't hurt to have that reserve power. The Wings where just that d**n good...Your Av's now that.

  18. No, I never cared for Hossa. Sorry. I want a guy who is going to be there thru thick and thin, who is not only going to give a hit but take a hit to make a play. He just doesn't fall under those catagories.

  19. Yes, it was worth it. He was a huge factor during the playoffs, we would not have gone that far without Hossa. And even if he doesn't stay with us, that $7 million dollars can sign 2 other world class players, Naslund and Jagr would be great lmao... :-)

  20. Nope.  No cup, and now resigning definitely not worth Colby Armstrong, Erik Christensen, Angelo Esposito, and a first-round pick.  I guess we won't really know for awhile, but my guess is Esposito, and who ever they would have selected in the first round alone will one day be worth WAY more then Hossa was.

  21. YESSSSSS. YES YES YES YES!

Without Hossa, I'm willing to be they'd have never made it as deep as they did. Marian did so much to the team, whether people realize it or not.

I'm still upset about him leaving, but it's his choice and I'll respect him  no matter what. He's an amazing hockey player.

It WAS worth it. Don't ever doubt it.

  22. For a team thinking they could win the cup, great rent a player...if they were thinking long term, bad choice.
