So Yeon Ryu all set for new LPGA season
South Korean So Yeon Ryu has shown that she is capable of giving a tough time to any contender and now with the start of the 2013 season, she looks more ambitious than ever to start her fresh
LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) journey.
The 22-year-old Ryu will start her season by participating in the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open, scheduled to be staged from Feb 9, in Australia. However, the biggest goal for Ryu will
probably be winning her second major title of her professional career.
The South Korean star won her first major title at the US Women’s Open in July 2011, beating Hee Kyung s****. three strokes.
Ryu joined professional golf in 2007, but she waited until the start of 2012 season before she became member of the LPGA Tour. However, she has been playing on the LPGA of Korea Tour since
2008.
Ryu worked hard to receive her LPGA membership. She herself has acknowledged in several of her interviews that grabbing the Tour card had been her number one priority right from the beginning.
Keeping in view her recent performance, it is easy to predict that the young gun will manage to grab victories in the 2013 season.
First off, her performance in most of the 2012 events has been remarkable. She recorded a total 16 top-ten finishes, earning an eye-popping $1,282,673.
She came off well in the last event of the LPGA—CME Group Titleholders—as she posted an overall score of 276 to take the second position on the leaderboard. She got off to a fiery start to
her campaign, carding a 66 in the first round.
At the end of the tournament, Ryu shared her thoughts and talked about her next goal. She said that she has been happy with her performance, but knows that the next season will be fraught
with challenges.
She said that she could have won the CME Group Titleholders, but made a few mistakes in the final moments. “Actually I really want to win this tournament because after I won the Jamie Farr
Classic, I never won the LPGA tournament. Actually I won the KLPGA tournament but I really want to take another trophy,” she said.
The 2012 ISPS Handa Australian Open saw her in an aggressive form. She fired a total score of 289 to finish tied for the second position on the leaderboard.  The second round was the scene
of a nail-biting battle because the South Korean star fired a 69.
