So Yeon Ryu clings to 12th spot in world rankings
South Korean So Yeon Ryu stands firm at the 12th spot in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, thanks largely to a good performance at the Navistar LPGA Classic 2012.
Although there has not been a major shift in the world rankings over the past week, Ryu has done well to keep on the safe side and she is now keen to move ahead by showing the same performance in coming Ladies
Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournaments.
A notable change in the top rankings was seen after Stacy Lewis of the United States retook her second position from South Korean Na Yeon Choi.
Despite this, Ryu’s position appears to be unhurt, not just in terms of world rankings, but also her overall performance on the LPGA Tour.
Ryu got off to a flying start at the Navistar LPGA Classic as she fired a 69 in the opening round. She did not stop advancing and kept ramping up pressure on her nearest rivals by making balanced stokes on
the greens and fairways.
Having posted an overall 275, the LPGA titan shared the 8th position with her fellow South Korean Hee Young Park and Meena Lee.
The South Korean star has gone through some pretty rough times in pro golf, but she has ridden out difficulty and has crafted a promising career for her.
Ryu rose to prominence after she grabbed her first title — a major one — at the US Women’s Open in July 2011. The major victory gave the South Korean golfer a new vigour and she stepped up her effort to find
a spot inside the top 10 in world rankings.
Observers said that Ryu has to go a long way before she can think of comparing herself to stars like the current world number one Yani Tseng and Stacy Lewis, but most of what she has gained since becoming professional
in 2007 can be attributed to her solid putting and swing skills.
Finally, she seems to have fixed flaws in her swing — something that helped her record a strong finish at the Navistar LPGA Classic 2012.
The 2012 season has been the most momentous for Ryu as she has racked up one title so far. She grabbed a whopping seven-stroke victory against American Angela Stanford.
