So Yeon Ryu clings to 13th in world rankings despite missing the cut at Vancouver
South Korean So Yeon Ryu has maintained her ranking at 13th in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, despite missing the cut at the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012.
The CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012 was played at the Vancouver Golf Club, Canada, last week, with the participation of almost all the top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars. However, Ryu’s
below-average performance caught her rivals by surprise, as the South Korean star was not expected to display such a bad performance.
However, thanks to good finishes in some of the recent tournaments, Ryu has been able to cling to her position in the world rankings. It is hoped that the LPGA titan will come up with a solid strategy for the
looming battle at Kingsmill Championship 2012, slated to be held from September 6-9, at Virginia, United States.
At CN Canadian Women’s Open, Ryu looked shattered right from the start as she missed several good opportunities to score. She made lousy putts on almost all the holes in the first two rounds and ended up missing
the cut. Her overall score for the two rounds was 148.
However, the rising golfer played much better at the Safeway Classic 2012 held over two weeks ago, at Oregon, United States.
Ryu played in a fearsome roster loaded with top-ranked stars like Cristie Kerr of the United States, Michelle Wie, Mika Miyazato, Yani Tseng, Paula Creamer, Lexi Thompson and Suzann Pettersen, but she remained
firm till the final moment.
The South Korean prodigy fired an overall 206 to finish tied for the fourth position on the leaderboard. She was pretty happy after making a good start that saw her post a 67 in the opening round.
“Actually, after winning and then it's really hard to concentrate on the game again, but I think today I played really well.  But anyway, the front nine, I really struggled with the tee shots,” Ryu said at
the end of the first round.
“But hole 9 I made the eagle, and then maybe my condition was getting better, getting better.  I think that hole 9 might be my lucky hole, actually.  Even in the last tournament I made a birdie at hole 9 and
then I started out really great and then today again”.
