So Yeon Ryu finishes runner-up in season finale
South Korean So Yeon Ryu displayed an electrifying performance at the season finale—CME Group Titleholders 2012, registering an overall score of 276 to finish runner-up.
Ryu was one of the favourites for the CME Group Titleholders 2012, staged at The TwinEagles Club, Naples, Florida, and a fiery start in the tournament helped her remain in contention throughout
the four days.
Having posted a massive 66 in the first round that saw her take an early lead along with Suzann Pettersen and Sun Young Yoo, Ryu was happy with the way things were going.
She, however, could not capitalise on her first-round lead and ended up posting a 72 in the second round. The score was not enough to keep her in contention, as other players like Japanese
Ai Miyazato and Na Yeon Choi made a charge.
Miyazato fired a 64 on Friday to grab the lead, while Choi posted a 68 to take the second position.
Choi was the only player in the roster who kept giving Ryu a hard time till the end of the final round.
Ryu improved her position once again after she carded a 68 in the third round, but Choi was quick to take a much stronger position, with the help of a 69 on Saturday.
Speaking to the LPGA Tour at the end of the final round on Sunday, Ryu said that she was pretty confident that she would surprise her fans and rivals this week, but losing the tournament is
something she did not hope.
However, she pointed out that her game, especially short one, was exceptionally well, helping her make solid shots even on the most difficult holes.
“I think today my shot was pretty great, but is really sadly my putting wasn't really great.  I missed so much really short putts like two foot, three foot par putt so that's why I just finished
like second,” said the 22-year-old who has grabbed two LPGA title so far since turning professional in 2007.
“Yesterday I finished third, but I finished second anyways, improved. When I started this tournament, my condition was really, really bad, especially like I couldn't feel like my swinging
feel”.
