So Yeon Ryu rises to 12th in world rankings
South Korean So Yeon Ryu, who won the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012 in grand style last Sunday, has risen to the 12th position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, thanks to her latest triumph.
Ryu, who had been struggling to find a spot inside the top 10 for months and had made several attempts, has now stepped up efforts to become one of the most prominent players on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour.
The South Korean star has been showing better-than-expected performance in the last few months, and has managed to improve her game greatly.
Analysts said that Ryu’s victory and a rise in her position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings have signalled an intense battle among Asian and American contenders in the coming tournaments.
Americans, who have been pushed back in their rankings in recent weeks, are trying to make efforts to regain their lost glory. With several Asians, especially South Koreans, having grabbed most of the positions in the top 100 in world rankings, Americans are finding it hard to prove their mettle in tournaments.
The last tournament, Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012, once again saw an Asian player prove her worth. Whereas, Americans, who were optimistic to do something amazing at Ohio this time, could not display a better performance as most of them finished outside the top 10 on the leaderboard.
Commentators said Ryu has fixed some fatal flaws in her putting lately, which helped her make perfect strokes on most of the holes in the third and fourth round of Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012.
Speaking to the media the at end of the third round of Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012, the rising South Korean said that she now feels more confident than ever before, because of her improved putting.
Attributing her victory at Ohio to solid putting, Ryu said that she knew that avoiding making lousy strokes on difficult holes would help her win the match.
“It feels like if I see my putter, just feels like I can make the putt.  I think the confidence really important at the putting, so that's why this week my putting's really great,” the LPGA titan said.
“And I think the green is really soft now, so it's really easy to make the birdie chance.  Everybody same condition.  I think everybody really know about this golf course.  So I think putt is really important key, yeah”.
