So Yeon Ryu steals the show at Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012
South Korean So Yeon Ryu fired an explosive 62 in the final round of Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012 to grab her first victory of the 2012 season.
Ryu grabbed much of the attention on Sunday at Highland Meadows Golf Club, Ohio, as her confidence was running high after playing so well in the first three rounds of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association)
tournament.
The South Korean star kicked off the final round in impressive style, as she drained nine birdies to pile up a massive score. She stunned her fans and the spectator on the course after she launched six straight
birdies from 9th to 14th hole.
Ryu, who bounced back after the second round and came into contention, did not let her nerve derail her despite a strong field featuring most of the top-ranked LPGA contenders.
The field, according to commentators, was much tougher than the previous edition, as it featured key players like Paula Creamer, Stacy Lewis, current world number one Yani Tseng, Brittany Lincicome, Angela
Stanford, Cristie Kerr, Suzann Pettersen, Brittany Lang, Na Yeon Choi, Chella Choi, Ai Miyazato, Natalie Gulbis, Michelle Wie and Mika Miyazato.
The South Korean prodigy knew that she would be able to subdue her rivals if she did fine in the third round. She shot a superb 67 on Saturday and moved into the final round with confidence.
On the other hand, American Angela Stanford finished second on the leaderboard as she posted an overall 271. Stanford could not come close to rattling Ryu, as the South Korean made a huge lead by posting an
overall 264.
South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who was defending her title as she won the 2010 edition of the prestigious tournament, could not impress her fans and finished tied for the 21st position after carding
an overall 279.
Speaking to the media at the end of the final round, Ryu said that she is more than happy after grabbing a victory in the United States.
“It feels surreal. I can't believe it. Actually, after the U.S. Open, I don't have any wins, so that's why I really am waiting for this win,” the winner said.
