So You Think defends Tattersalls Gold Cup title convincingly
So You Think convincingly and marvellously defended the title of the Tattersalls Gold Cup by finishing first against 4 rivals in the high-voltage Group 1 race at Curragh track on Sunday, May 27.
The A. P. O’Brien-trained bay horse suddenly returned to form yesterday after a gap of four outings and claimed the magnificent victory to supplement his success ratio further.
Being a 2-1 favourite, the six-year-old veteran sprinter defeated Famous Name, Robin Hood, Bible Belt and Elusive Ridge on the good course of 1 mile and 2 ½ furlongs.
Though the results of the race were greatly predictable but a huge crowed turned out to the venue to enjoy the thrilling action. The bookmakers were quite satisfied with what So You Think did.
The victor’s trainer was jubilant to have seen his pupil claiming the ace title of the Gold Cup for the second time in a row.
In his interaction with the local media after the race, O’Brien said, “He has an unbelievable presence. We're probably only really getting to know him and doing the right thing with him. He had a good break since Dubai and Joseph was very happy with him.”
He added, “He's an amazing horse - he's very unusual in that his mane and his tail grow twice as quick as any other horse, which means he has a wild look about him.
“This is the last time you'll see him in this country. Training him has been an unbelievable experience."
So You Think possesses a terrific track record. Since starting his career in May 2009, he has nicely won 13 of his total 22 starts so far, earning £4,775,406.
The year 2011 was proved to be greatly successful for him as he accomplished a number of iconic feats at various venues. Yesterday, he capitalised well on the form produced by those feats.
It is hoped that the maverick son of High Chaparral out of Triassic will move forward to his next outings with confidence and achieve further classic feats by the end of 2012. O’Brien has not revealed the horse’s future plans yet.
