So You Think lands Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot
So You Think gave no respect to Carlton House and clinched a comfortable victory in the 150th Anniversary of Prince of Wales's Stakes (British Champions Series), held at Royal Ascot on Wednesday, June 20th.
Carlton House was undoubtedly a massive danger to So You Think and the jockey, Joseph O’Brein, himself rated Sir Michael Stoute’s charge a threat ahead of the event. A. P. O’Brein’s trainee handled the situation brilliantly, keeping himself prominent right
through the contest.
After chasing the leading pair nicely early on, the New Zealander shifted his gears and as a result, established his dominance a couple of furlongs before the winning line.
On good surface, So You Think looked outstanding, as he made no mistake after gaining a decent lead. After taking a handsome lead in the final furlong, he stayed on strongly to crush his rivals comprehensively.
The dashing runner was a delight to watch in the final 100 yards and despite the fact that Carlton House came up with a serious challenge, the 4-5 favourite retained his advantage till the finish.
Consequently, he sealed the top rank by two and a quarter lengths. Under Ryan Moore, Carlton House tried his best, but failed to make things tricky for the ultimate champion. The 7-2 chance was lucky to grab the runner-up place, as Farhh was just ½L behind
him.
It was a close finish, as Saeed Bin Suroor’s trainee managed to end up among top-3 just by a neck’s distance. Reliable Man was fourth on the table, while the fifth spot went to Sri Putra.
"We expected a big run today, we felt like we had him in a place that he was never in before with us, which is incredible. I think we've had him a year and a half and it's taken me that long to learn how to train him,” O'Brien snr said after the race.
He continued: "We felt he was in a place today he's never been in before. I was delighted to hear what Bart had to say as he was speaking from the heart and I was probably over-working the horse and galloping the speed out of him instead of letting him be
natural.”
