So You Think retired, to miss Coral-Eclipse at Sandown
Aidan O’Brien’s 10-time Group 1 winner, So You Think, will not be seen in action anymore, as the connections have called it day after the horse pulled a muscle in his hindquarters. The 6-year-old is set to enter quarantine this weekend, and will be sent
to Coolmore stud for a fee of 66,000 Australian dollars.
High Chaparral’s son was scheduled to have his farewell run in the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse, but the spectators at Sandown would not be able to see him showing his class. Under O’Brien’s command, the dashing horse sealed five Group 1 victories and the handler
expressed serious disappointment over missing Saturday's £241,585 meeting at Sandown.
"So You Think is an extraordinary horse and it was a real privilege to have had him here at Ballydoyle on loan from Australia," said trainer Aidan O'Brien, who took over the 6-year-old from Bart Cummings.
Bred by M. J. Moran - Piper Farm Ltd in New Zealand, he started his career with a wonderful outing in May 2009. The maverick runner kept producing good results throughout his journey. He registered his first Group 1 triumph in October-09, when he crushed
Starspangledbanner and the rest to seal an emphatic victory by 7¾ lengths in the Age Caulfield Guineas.
He was super impressive in his last two appearances this season. After making an unlucky trip in the Dubai World Cup at Meydan, the bay horse regained his winning momentum and clinched two consecutive triumphs recently.
The Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup saw him beating Famous Name by half a dozen lengths at Curragh in May. After such a magnificent win, he perpetuated his good work to win the 150th Anniversary of Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.
"It's a big disappointment that he'll miss the Eclipse, but he's had a wonderful racing career and now it's time for him to shine at stud. His book reads like a who's who of all the best mares and breeders so he'll get the best possible start," said Tom
Magnier of Coolmore Australia.
Owned by Smith/Magnier/Tabor/DatoTan/TunkuYahaya, the rampant horse grabbed 14 wins as well as four runner-up positions during his career.
