I've been looking at the Saturn Vue Greenline Hybrid. I think that's my final answer, Regis. But I wanna know if there are better choices. [Don't want a Chevy or Honda] Toyota and Ford and everything else is okay with me.

  1. Toyota Highlander.

  2. everyone thinks that hybrids are eco friendly, but that is not the real truth. the lithium-ion batteries they use are toxic unless disposed of properly, and when time does come to replace them, they are very expensive. add to that the extra $6000 you pay to buy the hybrid in the first place, and if you get a plug in hybrid where do you think the electricity comes from? thats right likely a coal fired or nuclear power planet. if you like the hybrid, go ahead and buy it, but dont do it just because it is "eco friendly" because it truly isnt.

i do like the escape hybrid, and saturn does have a decent reputation as a reliable vehicle, as does toyota, so you cant go wrong with any of them.

  3. Get your SUV " Nanodetonators " will be on the market this summer anyway and you wont have to worry about gas. I know I have a dealership . Got the word to go ahead and built  my site . Ive been waiting the last 2 years for this . Will be out this summer

  4. Aren't hybrid batteries recyclable? and besides that, they aren't going to fry in a year. by the time anything starts going wrong with the battery, it'll be years from now when they're loads cheaper.

Try the Ford escape hybrid, it gets like 34 mpg. Might also try the Mercury Mariner hybrid. gets like 31 mpg.

Don't underestimate smaller cars though for space.

  5. I'm not quite sure why you are looking at a Saturn, if you don't like Chevy.  They're both GM products (same parent company, same technology)...

Look hard at your driving habits, patterns, and current usage.  What vehicle do you currently have - what do you primarily use it for?  Can you combine your trips?  Clean out accumulated junk to give you more space?  How well have you maintained it, and are you driving for optimum fuel efficiency (coast to and anticipate stops, no jackrabbit starts, proper grade of oil and properly inflated tires)?  Improving your current situation without a new car would be best environmentally, but if you need a new vehicle you should look to see what interior size you really need and go from there.  If you only on rare occasions need the larger space or hauling capacity, perhaps you can get an efficient car for the majority of your driving, and either rent the larger vehicle as needed or buy an old used larger vehicle (with low mileage discounts on insurance) for those uncommon needs.

You can view the most environmentally friendly (from both an emissions and a fuel economy point of view) at:  http://www.epa.gov/greenvehicles/  If you need to get a certain size/type of vehicle (such as a SUV or a minivan or a truck or a car), you might as well get the cleanest one available...  (Use the Advanced Search.)

If you are looking at SUVs, the FWD Ford Escape Hybrid/Mercury Mariner Hybrid/Mazda Tribute Hybrid are rated the best, at 34 MPG city/30 MPG highway (better fuel economy than many cars!) and SULEV.  Next best is the Toyota Highlander Hybrid/Lexus RX400h, then the Saturn Vue Green Line at 25/32 MPG.

and yeah, you should at least try out a Toyota Prius.  This midsize hatchback is surprisingly larger on the inside than it looks from the outside, especially when you fold down the rear seats to increase the rear cargo room.

  6. GMC now has a Yukon hybrid.  The best of all that you want.  Check it out.

  7. The Ford Escape hybrid gets the best mileage of any SUV hybrid.  The Vue gets 25 mpg city 32 mpg highway, the Escape hybrid gets 34/30 and costs about $2000 more.

I would really suggest that you give the Toyota Prius a chance though.  It's a lot roomier than it looks.  I've fit 2 bicycles inside mine with the back seats down because of the hatchback design.  It costs less than the Vue and gets 47 mpg.

richard b's answer is completely wrong.  For starters hybrids don't even use lithium ion batteries yet, they use NiMh batteries.  Actually it would be better if they used lithium batteries, because they're non-hazardous.  However, current hybrid batteries are fully recyclable and are designed to last the lifetime of the car (and are under warranty for 8-10 years).  I wish people wouldn't spread misinformation about hybrids like that.  This is Yahoo Answers, not Yahoo Pull Information Out Of Your Butt.

  8. The SUV hybrids are not Eco-Friendly.  To be Eco-friendly you need to reduce the amount that you drive and get a small reliable, car that gets really good gas mileage.

  9. You might check out the VW Passat wagon diesel. Literature says it gets about the same mileage as the Prius (45 MPG). It is much larger inside than even the SUV's mentioned. Much faster than any hybrid. Only battery is regular battery. You can also burn your cooking oil or other Bio diesel if available.

If you drive a lot of high speed highway miles, the diesel will really out perform most any hybrid. Save the world. Produce less CO2. Go Diesel.

  10. yes you seriously are.

  11. space for what?  Do you mean like taking up two parking places space or something like that?  For passengers, there really isnt a whole lot of difference between a car and a suv, its just a myth to get people to buy them.  Most of the suv's i see going by have two at the most people in them.  They are somtimes useful for hauling a load of junk if you move or something, but how many times will that  happen, borrow someones truck if that is the case.  My ford probe gets twice the gas mileage that my gf's blazer gets, that means compared to her gas is only costing me 1.50/gal and has all the space i need to drive to work, i call that eco friendly

  12. Just how often do you need the space, really?  The North American average is 1.2 people in a 5 passenger car.

Buy your economy car and when you NEED carrying capacity rent a van.

  13. try the toyota highlander hybrid

  14. Yes.  The "World's Cleanest Car" runs on compressed air.

"BBC News is reporting that a French company has developed a pollution-free car which runs on compressed air. India's Tata Motors has the car under production and it may be on sale in Europe and India by the end of the year.

The air car, also known as the Mini-CAT or City Cat, can be refueled in minutes from an air compressor at specially equipped gas stations and can go 200 km on a 1.5 euro fill-up -- roughly 125 miles for $3. The top speed will be almost 70 mph and the cost of the vehicle as low as $7000."
