Question:

So-called "assault weapons" and hunting rifles?

Can anybody provide me with a list of "hunting rifles" that accept detachable "high capacity" (whatever that means) magazines? I'm looking specifically for rifles that were not included in the '94 AWB. Please include caliber.

I'd like this information for when I argue with the anti's. When they say "a madman can get an assault weapon with a 30 round magazine" I'd like to reply "well, the <...> rifle is also a semi-automatic that fires a similar round and has a detachable magazine..."

Usually I argue that a gunman with a .30-30 lever-action going up against an unarmed population would have no trouble performing tactical reloads and doing just as much damage as if he had an AK.

Thanks for your help!

  1. I don't know about a 30-rd clip, but Springfield's M1A takes 10-rd clips (possibly 20-rd too) and it is a semi auto rifle (not "assault rifle").

I don't know if this helps or not, but Bushmaster and a couple other AR cloners make Cali-legal M-4s without detachable mags.

  2. What about the SKS? They can use detachable clips, but it is also a very common hunting and sporting rifle. Uses the same ammo as the AK-47. Even the AK-47 is a decent hunting rifle. It's just as accurate as a 30-30 lever action. In fact, the ballistics are almost identical. It doesn't matter if they are used for hunting or not though. The second amendment has absolutely nothing to do with hunting.

The problem with the anti-gun people that want to ban so-called assault weapons is that most of them don't even understand the difference between semi-automatic and fully automatic. They think the civilian legal version of the AK is the same AK-47 they see spraying bullets all over the place in the movies. Explaining the difference between real full auto assault rifles and civilian legal semi-automatics that just "look" like those types of guns would be a good start. The amount of ignorance among the gun control freaks never seizes to amaze me.

  3. Remington 7615 is a pump action rifle, it just happens to fire .223 ammo, and will accept any M16-AR15-M4 magazine on the market, including the 100 round Beta mags.

It is not an assault rifle by any definition, yet it can take those high capacity magazines that those "evil black rifles" take.

  4. #1 assault is a behavior not a gun type.

AR-15 is an example of a hunting rifle that can accept 'hi capacity' magazines, as is the saiga, which while based on the AK design, is a hunting only weapon, no military or policeforce uses them. There used to be hi cap magazines for the browning BAR rifle (the hunting rifle, not the WW2 SAW type weapon) you can use a peterson device to convert ANY mauser-based bolt action 30 caliber rifle to a full auto mag fed rifle.

  5. Off hand I can't think of one not covered.

I agree with you about the 30-30 against an unarmed populace. However if someone has a CCW and returned your fire the man with the 30-30 would have to think about keeping his head and finding more unarmed sheep to mess with.

  6. likie what one of the previous posters sad, never argue with a drunk, but ya should would like to ounch them sometimes huh? whatever your answer is they will find something else. the problem is that these ignorant narrow minded liberals ofent try to sound like experts in areans thet they have no knowledge whatso ever. for inatanse an assuly weappon is one with fully automatic capabilities. has not a dman thing to do with the looks. the ar 15 rifle is the civilian verson if the military m16. looks identical. same ammunition, same feel same everything.but the antigun liberals would call this an assault wweapon purely because of cosmetic looks, and out of sure ignorance.if you were to ask these same peopl what they would do if someone broke into thier house, they would most likely come up with a lame brain answer like, i,ll call the police! then the police would most likely be calling the meat wagon to haul thier dead liberal asses away. either they fail to see, or they refuse to see that the whole porpose of self defence with a fire arm is to staop an attack from being purpetrated in the first place.so they say more guns will kill more people. and that may be true to some extent, but what they fail to realize is that guns are more often used in a good way, to save lives than to take them. and they aslo fail to acknowlegde that alot of the dead people ae the criminals that had tried to commit the crime against an innocent victim. i say that is a good thing, not a bad thing.not only do i think that a person who shoots and kills someone breaking into thier home should not be charged, i think the should be given a medal. and i also do not think that a person should have to have a carry permit, or a special liscence to exocise a right then already constitutuonally have under the 2nd ammendment.

  7. I don't think the Ruger mini-30 or mini-14 were affected by the AWB. They certainly don't look like "assult rifles" but the differances don't really go beyond cosmetics. When you think about it, even from the anti-gun perspective the AWB was retarted. All it did was place restrictions on guns that look "evil." How such a ridiculous piece of legistation ever got passes is beyond me.

  8. In case no one told you the 1994 AWB expired.

    God Bless America.

Remington makes a pump action rifle in .223/5.56NATO that takes AR15/M16 stick magazines in 10 round, 20 round, 30 round and 40 round, as well as 90 and 100 round drums. It's the model 7615.

In profile, without the magazine inserted, it looks pretty much like the Remington pump and autoloader hunting rifles they've had avalible for decades.

With practice a pump rifle can be fired as fast as a semiautomatic.

I think this would be the ideal weapon with which to make your point.

  9. Under the new AWB bill there are no semi-autos excluded. The list includes the Ruger Mini-14 and Mini-30, the SKS, the M1 Carbine and any semi-auto (rifle, shotgun or pistol) which has been used by any military or any police department or is based on a design which is on the list or has been used by any military or police department.

Can anyone name a single semi-auto which NOT EVEN a similar design has not been used by any military or police department?

You should also point out that all the mass shootings have only occurred in a "Gun Free/Criminal Protected" Zone.

  10. Ruger mini 14 ranch rifle, you can even get a 90 round drum but if you dont get an aftermarket stock than it will look like a normal hunting rifle

and as far as the people saying about assault rifles and all that c**p

an assault rifle has a selector switch for full auto capabilitys

  11. Never try to argue with a drunk, a nutcase, or an anti; their mind (or what there is of a mind) is made up; so save your breath. The crazies who do bad things have been with us from the beginning.

  12. Your answer should be that we are American, and have the right to bear arms. The "mad man" always gets his guns illegally. And furthermore the Supreme Court just ruled that The second Amendment Right is for the common folk too.

That being said, Less than one half of 1 percent of violent gun crime has ever been committed with the guns described on the ban list. Never mind Hollywood. Crime is committed with small common weapons not fully auto AK,s and or UZI's.

In the world of big cash narcotics, weapons are acquired regardless of laws. With enough cash, one can buy just about anything, even a politician.

Remember our founding fathers wrote those amazing words to avoid the kind of government they were breaking away from. Be American! Be great! Tell the tree hugging liberals that the only reason they can express their opinion without being persecuted is because of an armed community that won that right.

As far as the "madman" is concerned, how bout keeping them in prison for longer than a month.

I dont have the answer on how to stop crazy people on a rampage, but I am a law enforcement officer, and I carry a weapon almost all the time. If more of our law abiding repsonsible citizens were armed, maybe rampages would be stopped sooner. It seems as if a "madman" always strikes where noone can defend themselves, and others.

Lets remember that God created all men, but Sam Colt made them equal.

  13. I'd say if your tack is to point out there are other firearms that are just as bad, you've already lost your argument. In the anti-gunner's mind you've just made the case that the other weapons ought to be banned as well.

It does not matter that someone with a 30 round magazine in a semi-auto rifle can do great damage. It is a citizen's right to have that firearm anyway. Here in the US we do not ration rights based on what the vilest criminal among us might do.

  14. The Second Ammendment has nothing to do with hunting - it was included so the armed populace could revolt against the government if it ever became abusive. If our founding fathers were concerned about hunting - they would have mentioned it.

Anti-gunners who do not want to remove sporting arms are just wolves in sheep's clothing. Hunters who feel their rifle is perfect for sporting - but feel assault rifles should be banned - they are not much better. Show me any firearm - I will find a place in this country where it is not suitable for hunting game there........and if 'good for hunting' is the sole criteria, any gun could be made illegal.

A few years ago guns were confiscated in several african nations - it was sold as a way to prevent the years of violence the region had experienced from continuing. The United Nations helped disarm the villages. Now the unarmed are being slaughtered in a new wave a genocide......whole villages disapearing ........ and all by the very same people who took the guns in the name of peace.

Think that would never happen here? Look how quick society went down the tubes with Katrina. Only took 48-72 hours.

In England - where guns were outlawed a long time ago - chef's are being forced to register any cultery with a blade length greater than 10". Any chef who's knife falls into the wrong hands becomes liable for the damage done wtih his knife. All because the courts there refuse to blame the actions of people who commit the crimes - they want to blame the crimes on the object.

This is the reality the US will have in a few years if gun owners do not stop trying to decide what is a good gun, and, what is a bad gun. No matter how great your is - I can find somehting bad about it.

A real anti-gunner already has their mind made up - no amount of common sense or facts will help.

    Hope this helps.

  15. youd be making the argument that hunting rifles are just as dangerous and should be banned as well. youd have to prove that in 99% of crimes an assault rifle isnt used in a crime (which is true).

  16. I agree 100 % with the above post.

2nd amendment is not there to allow us to keep hunting weapons it is designed to stop tyrants.

Africa is a great example of what hanppens when guns are confiscated
