Ok, I was really smart as a kid but I'll skip all the details and just tell you that I had a broken home to say the least. I lived with my mom for a while, grandparents a while, uncle for a while, and then with my dad.

My mom's side of the family does well in life and is well educated (except my mom). I got passed around and then ended up going to live with my dad. He dropped out of school in like 8th grade. I went to live with him at age 16 and dropped out of school at 17 because he was letting me work with him and I liked the money. They would always say stuff like "alright philosophiser" and ended up dumbing me down a bit, but it didn't work.

Here are subjects I like - philosophy, physics, meta physics, psychology, art, I'm really creative and don't like generalized rules. I like to color outside the lines I guess.

My prob is this I went back to school at age 27 but only to a community college. I took psychology, that was my major then I changed it. I took philosophy and religion but it was lame at my school. I really wanted to pursue a career in sciences but I totally suck at math. I have a 3.7 gpa and was in National Honor society but had to drop College algebra twice to keep it. I will admit i didn't try as hard as i should but part of it is just real hard for me. I know I can get it even if i have to get a tutor, but I didn't stay in school. I ended up changing to beautician school and went half way through and stopped. Now i don't think i want to do that. I really want to finish and do physics or philosophy or something like that but Im 29 now.

Considering all this what should I do? I know I need to pick something and stick with it. What are my chances realistically?

  1. Your chances are still realistic. You're disciplined enough to start but not motivated enough to finish what you've started. You may be searching for that right career path and thats ok. You still have time to change ur career and do something you actually have a desire for. There's nothing wrong w/ exploring different paths because that is basically the point of life. Most people don't even find what they believe is what they should be doing (in terms of work career), but they keep on working and living. Trust me, you're doing great.

  2. Finish beautician school and it will pay your way for any further classes you want to pick up along the way. There's no reason you have to pick just one thing. You may be one of those people that does better with a varied career. Having your beautician training will make the rest easier and take the pressure off a bit. It's one of the few things you can start making money at right away,

  3. h**l, do both.  With a college degree your chances at a better job go up drastically.  (It's a shame but it's the truth)  Perhaps you may want to teach or do research.  It is never too late to finish school.  In the end it will be worth the time.

  4. see a dr. for ADD , see a psychologist , volunteering  is always a way to get perspective, lots of support groups  avail to help you ,vs/vs  big bro- big sisters the ymca tutoring , sub in school system , give up any drinking and drugs  if thats an issue? open up your own business , lots of things to get your whole hearted attention..
