  1. Great question - I would mark it interesting but my browser asks me for my password every time I try, heh!

Anyway - Love is a word that gets overused a lot, and I suppose it comes in different types (the love you have for your family is different to a romantic love) but they are all characterised by very strong feelings. If the loss of someone would make you experience grief then I think you probably have love for that person, the amount of love might vary between a lover and a good friend.

When I started to answer this question I was thinking that love has to be directed at a person (or at least a living thing - like a pet) but I am starting to reconsider - consider a vain person whose personal esteem was very much linked to their car. If this car was blown up (somehow) they might feel bereft, like a part of them had disappeared, they might not fully believe it or get unreasonably angry with the world.

I'm not saying it would be entirely healthy - but it really does feel like a person could engage with a thing or possession in such a way as to say they "love" it.

What about people who say things like "I love ice cream!", I'm sure most such exclamations are exaggerations but can we really believe it would be possible for someone to be so emotionally invested in their ability to consume a certain food that they would suffer withdrawals if it were taken away. Astonishingly - I think we can, although again I would not call it a healthy relationship.

Sorry if this has gone on a bit - let me try and sum up succinctly

    Love is emotion beyond reason.

Love can be helpful or harmful to you.

Love does not need to be returned.

Love will always be needed in the world.

    Thanks again

  2. Love is a deep-seated respect and adoration for another. Love is putting others before you and being selfless. Love is being kind, caring and supportive. Love is the strive to keep the flame alive and strong (and hot!). Love is when your blind to any negative outside sources, you just see and feel your love for this one special person. Love is when you just know. Love is when you let it go and it comes back like a boomerang. Love is a connection that goes beyond words or definitions. Love is indescribable.

  3. People today tend to think of love as a noun - a feeling. Love is actually a verb, it's action. We have this romantic theory of love, when in truth it means from love springs actions to prove our love. I'm not even speaking of romantic love necessarily. If you care about someone you will help them whenever and however you can. The romantic notions we have about love today are based on selfish, narcissisticcistic principles. Something like, "If you really loved me, you'd do...(fill in the blank) for me.
