  1. Yes. Most of the problems we need to solve in our daily life are very simple.

  2. No, we use 100% of our brain. Scientific proof is simple: you cannot sustain brain damage without any type of impairment of your mental or physical functions. If we only used 10%, then 90% of the brain could be damaged or removed and we'd be fine. In fact, 1% has a detrimental effect, let alone 90%.

We use less than 30% of our brain capacity, but that's a different story altogether.

  3. It is false.  Studies of brain activity show that we use nearly 90% of our brains, although not all at the same time.

  4. we don't.

Otherwise your brain would atropy fairly quickly.

I think what people tried to express with the 10% is that we are not limited by the storage capacity of our brain how much we can learn or remember.

  5. I can't give you the "true" answer. Your truth, my truth, anybody's truth may be the next guy's belly laugh. BUT I can give you the facts. About 10% to 12%  of your brain is used for cognitive functions, and for daily living. The remainder of your brain is used for storage... memory.

  6. Re: dickn2000a's answer, it doesn't make sense given what we know about memory. Recalling a memory is a constructive process, an activity wherein we use our world knowledge (eg. "windows have an outside and an inside") in combination with the facts we are searching for (eg. "I left my cup on the window sill"). So saying that 90% of the brain is used for memory in that sense is like saying that 90% of the brain is used for, well, a whole bunch of brain functions.

(And if someone tells you that 90% of the brain is used for long term memory in the narrow sense, pure look-up functions, they are simply mistaken.)
