So does a Remington 700 SPS .223 have a free floating barrel? An would it be good w/o a bipod?

I heard some things about the remington 700 SPS stock an barrel. Some things like, it doesn't have one. I just wanna make sure if it does or doesn't. Cheers

  1. No, Remington says their sporting rifles do better with most of the barrel free-floated but with a small pressure point under the end of the fore-end. With the synthetic stock, they're generally going to be right; with wood, it's occasionally necessary to free-float. Before you go and get rid of that pressure point, I can testify that once it's gone, it's a real pain in the rear to put it back should you need to.


  2. No it doesn't have a free floating barrel.* You don't need the bi-pod.* Its plenty accurate without the free floating barrel.*

  3. No. I actually just looked at an SPS today and it did not. It would be okay without a bipod but with the 26" heavy barrel its kind of tough to keep still. So I would recommend a bipod but you do not have to have it.
