So does anyone know if fish drink water

I know this may sound stupid but my coworker wants to know and I don't know the answer! Do fish drink water?

  1. No. Fish do not drink water on purpose. They live in the water, which means they can never get dehydrated, so there is no need for them to ingest water. When eating, they may take in some water along with the food by accident, but no, fish do not drink.

  3. Yes, when they breath through their gills, they takes in H2O, and when they eat, they get water with them. Don't be ashamed to ask a question like this, most people don't know the answer and that is a really good question. I saw that question once before I knew the answer and it really got me thinking.

  4. depends, freshwater fish absorb water through osmosis, through their skin, so they dont drink water to hydrate, saltwater fish actually drink water, and their gills remove the salt from the water....so yes and no.
