  1. I used to run most of my jewellry business through eBay. At the time it did quite well but went a bit down hill for a while so I stopped using it. That was a while back now so things could be different.

To get a bid, it can be anywhere from 1 second to 7 days...and you can also get no bids at all. It just depends on what you are selling, the demand for it and what your starting bid was.

  2. Er, yes.

Can be any period of time.

You have to get to know your own market. It is surprising what sort of things sell well an which don't. From my limited experience it is surprising how well old broken laptops sell (presumably bought for difficult to get spares) and old mobile 'phones. That was 6 months ago so things change rapidly. You just got to test the market.

  3. Yep :-)

eBay is a great place to make money, if you understand how it works.

I found one of the best step-by-step guides on how to make money on eBay at:

I recommend you take a look.

    Good luck

  4. You can make money off of E-bay. However you need to unsterstand how ebay works which includes understanding the feedback system and how it influcences buyers. A lot of sellers make the mistake of selling right away with 0 feedback or a very low feedback score. Typically this is a mistake as you do not have a history and many buyers will not trust you. Furthermore if you are able to sell the item chances are the item will go for less than what it would go for if you had a high feedback score and the number of bids you would get is minimal. Generally speaking, based on my experience from selling on E-bay, you need a feedback score of 50 at a minimum and ideally a feedback score of a 100 before you begin to sell.

In addition to the above Ebay is great place to sell if you can avoid being sucked into their promotional stuff and you can do around 100 transactions a month at a minimum. Otherwise costs can begin to eat away at what you are making and buyers do not get a chance to know you which can adversely impact anything you are trying to sell. The main thing to remember is to know your market, know what it is costing you, and build up a reputation as a good person. Otherwise you will have a horrendous time trying to sell on Ebay and you will most likely have minimal success.

  5. it depends on what you're selling. if you're selling something crappy that no one wants, you probably won't get any bids. if you're selling something that's in high demand, you'll probably get bids fairly quickly.

i have made money a while back selling things like my old nintendo 64 and games, a super nintendo that i had found for a steal at a yard sale, some dvds i never watched anymore, etc. i didn't make a fortune, but i also wasn't running a business or anything either. it was more of getting rid of stuff i don't use and making a little more money off of the stuff than what i would get selling them at a yard sale. i would say i made a decent amount of extra cash.
