So every day now at volleyball practice...

Somebody ends up having to leave becuase of almost passing out, asthma attacks, etc.

Even girls who don't usually use inhalers are having trouble.

[I'm at volleyball in the morning and evening, I practically live in knee pads and am constantly running, sweating, hurting. fyi]

And every half hour or so somebody has to sit out and rest, and one of my coaches has to help them get back to normal.

We condition hard.

Our practices are six days a week for at least three hours, and it is HOT in our gym. No air, and we can't always open the doors.

Our head coach was telling us that on his son's soccer team, even kids without asthma started having to use inhalers becuase of the heat and excercise extremity.

Do you think this is a good idea?

Thoughts.

  1. drink more gatorade, not just water. and try to get your coaches to let yall have breaks more often i mean some kind of red flag should be going up. HELLO?! GIRLS PASSING OUT AND HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING?!

but anyway i hope everything works out better! good luck!

  2. omg.

that's EXACTLY how our practices are!!

    im on our jv team.

our gym is extremely hot, our practices are every day, twice a day.

    (each practice 2 1/2 hrs.)

    we drink lots of water.

but its kinda hard to when ur coach pushes u to get u ready for the season.

i think its just because of the heat.

i think coaches should allow more water breaks..but thats just my opinion.

but umm idk...if u dont have asthma i really dont think u should use an inhaler.

i think most people if they just got done running make the mistake of sitting down or bending over.

the best thing to do is stand up straight and put ur hands on top of ur head. it allows ur lungs to get more air

(in track i made those mistakes and passed out. not so good.)

    well, hopefully that helped (ish)

  3. ok so at my practices its the same way and sometimes the coach forgets to tell us to get a water break!

no air and the fans are faced the opposite way?

hmm well maybe you need to let your coach know.

    and keep steady breathing.

i break in through my nose 2 times then a big breath out of my mouth.

    we condition VERY HARD.

    some girls almost pass out.

of couse not on the team right now...we are all very athletic but tryouts were horrible.

  4. Woah! That doesnt sound good at all. I know what you mean I play softball and when I go to conditioning, it's terrible our gym is sooo hot and it feels like you can't breathe. I think its a good idea that you guys have conditioning but if a lot of girls are having trouble breathing or almost passing out, you should probably convince your coach to maybe practice somewhere where it is a little bit cooler but if there isn't any where that is cooler, then maybe you should drink water like every 10 min. Yeah i know how you feel even though my conditining is only three days a week about 3 hours so I don't have it as bad as you do. Well i hope this will help. if not, then I tried my best

  5. First off, your coach is working you too hard.  He's stupid if he doesn't know he should slow down.  Everyday someone passes out of has asthma attacks?!  Get together as a group and explain to your coach that working too hard will create injuries and send someone to the hospital.

If it's really hot in the gym, make sure you're taking water breaks AT LEAST every 20 minutes.  45min-1 hour is not enough.

You should also bring Gatorade or some kind of fruit juice for the middle or end of practice.  It will prevent girls from fainting.  It sounds like their blood glucose levels are low, and plus it's very hot out.  My coach used to bring everyone juice boxes for the end of practices during our tryouts in high school. :)

As for the inhalers, don't take it unless you really need it (if you have asthma, or exercise-induced asthma). Taking a drug you don't really need may make your body become dependent on it.

Just tell your coach to ease up a little, have more water breaks, and maybe have a little outside break (any wind will be really refreshing :))

Or, after practices, have a water fight outside with the other teammates, haha.

  6. they are getting dehydrated!!!....they need ALOT of water....they should get a water break every 10-20 mins and force them to drink as much as they can...them sweating in the heat isnt good if they dont get enough liquids back in there body...and dont use an inhaler inless the doctor tells you too...its still a drug and you can get in serious trouble if people find out....if your coaches dont give you more water breaks someone will end up in the hospital....and the coaches will be to blame

  7. I feel like that your coaches are overdoing it.  If the gym is very hot and they know people are passing out or having trouble to breathe, they still give you guys breaks only every 30 to 45 minutes.  They are crazy!  You should tell them that you guys need breaks more often, especially with the humidity of the gym.  That is not cool.  You guys should get breaks whenever your body needs it, not when your coach tells you that you need it.  Very unjust!

  8. i have a psycho coach like that too.

    i HATE it.

theres really nothing you can do...

3 girls have thrown up in the past week and my coach hasnt let up AT ALL

ughhh i TOTALLY know how you feel... i hatee ittttt

    ahh

  9. iam a runner so i know a lot about over heating because i have even passed out crossing the finish line of a race and i dont think they should be using that because clearly you guys are being pushed too hard and you are paying for it with your body
