  1. I have found cruisecritic.com fantastic tell you most things

  2. I am going on the same cruise in December of 2008! Can't wait either, it will be my first cruise as well. I can't really tell you what to bring, but from what I have heard you should bring a sweater cause it gets a little chilly at night. Shorts and t-shirts in the day. Bathing suit of course. You have to bring dress-up clothes for dinner. At least two outfits, depends how much you will go to the fancy restaurants. A cocktail dress is appropriate. You are going in August so it will probably be pretty hot. Other then that just the regular toiletry items. Have fun!

  3. O.k. so where you are going its gonna be warm. First of all do not over pack. You will find that less is better. Sometimes you wear the same thing twice 'cause it's easy maintenance.Bring a pair of walking shoes,a comfortable pair of sandals and a dress shoe for the "formal" wear since you have to dress for dinner. Take 2 swimsuits. a pair of jeans, light weight to tops (100% cotton) a couple pairs of shorts and 1 or 2 sundresses. Anything else you can buy. Outdoor markets are fun and you'll be surprized at what you can find for cheap if you bargin with vendors. As for formal wear, you will need a few different outfits and a couple dress pants. I know it sounds like a lot, but one siut case should be fine. But remember leave some room in that suitcase for what ever you bring home with you.Have fun coordiatimg outfits and happy cruising!

  4. The dress on ship is casual all day until 6:00 PM, so take:

    -swim wear (at least 2),

    -shorts, tank tops and "T's"

    -sandals,

    -beach shoes,

-your snorkel equipment if you have it,

    -sun glasses and sun screen,

    -lotions,

-a cap or big hat for the sun,

-a book if you are a reader,

    -your music player,

-sneakers and clothes to workout in if you like to use the gym,

    -good walking shoes,

    -your camera, and

-other personal toiletries including tooth paste, mouth wash or lotions.

Your cabin will have towels and soap provided, including pool and beach towels, and a hair dryer. It will also have a generic hair shampoo so you do not need to bring that unless you like a specific brand.

After 6:00 PM they request that you wear "sports or resort casual" attire. That's attire that you would expect a person to wear in a business office, (like a bank employee), shirt with a collar, slacks, skirt, blouse, etc. You can still wear shorts and swim wear in the pools and spas but not in public areas like dining rooms and restaurants, show rooms, bars, casino, etc. Don't over pack , take clothes that you can mix and match tops and bottoms and plan to wear each piece twice. If you are going to the Caribbean you will likely be in shorts and/or swim wear most of every day so evening clothes don't usually get much wear.

Your cruise will have a formal night or two when you can wear your best stuff and get pictures taken, and maybe meet the ship’s Captain. The formal nights are REQUESTED not required attire. You will not be denied entry to the main dining room if you decide not to dress up, as long as you are at least sports casual. But most people do dress up. A gown or party dress for women and a suit or tux for men. Some people dress up both formal nights, some don't. We always take the formal stuff off after dinner and a photo or two and go back to casual stuff.

    - Its best to pack using soft-sided luggage because with space limited in your cabin it fits under the beds better if its not hard sided luggage.

    - Pack using the vacuum clothing bags (about $20 for 3 at Target) so that you can get more in your bag AND so that if the TSA at the airport opens your bag they can see what's inside without rummaging through your things.

-Take a small carry-on bag for the last night of the cruise. On the last evening you will be required to put your luggage outside your cabin by about 2:00 AM so that they can start taking it down to the lower deck for offloading the next morning. So you will need a small bag for your toiletries and your clothes that you sleep in.

  5. Don't bring pants - what a waste of luggage space. Bring clothes like you are going to the beach for everyday. There may be a formal dining evening or two and if you want to participate, you should bring a gown - which means all the accessories and makeup and curling hair straightening blowing drying misting fluffing shaping coloring to-make-you-beautiful attachments as well.

Brings lots of money - even if you don't do anything, the tipping is expensive.

  6. There is a TON of information on cruising at CruiseCritic.com.  Click on "Reviews" and check out "Member Reviews" and the pro review, too.  Then click on "Boards" and find a topic you'd like to know more about.  I'd suggest the Carnival board, of course, "First Time Cruisers", "Money Saving Tips", "Ports of Call", etc.  You will find info on what to wear and what to pack, too.

It's a good idea to plan to go to the departure city the day before your cruise, so you won't have to worry about getting there on time.  You don't need to use the cruise line transfers - it's better to grab your own cab in most departure ports.  Same thing for the return - it's worth a few bucks to have a porter drag your bags and get you a cab.

Since you're going on the Western Caribbean, you'll probably be stopping at Grand Cayman and Cozumel, two ports that are very easy to do on your own.  The CC boards will have lots of info.  Just MAKE SURE that you get back to the ship on time, because they won't wait for you if you're late unless you're on one of their tours.  This is especially important in GC because it's a tender port.  If you're stopping in Jamaica, use a ship's tour, unless you just want to walk over to Island Marketing/Margaritaville next door to the pier.  Jamaica isn't a port to "go it alone".

  7. bring clothing that is suitable for warm weather.  Also remember to bring nice clothing for the few "formal" nights.  flip flops, suntan lotion, a good book, those are some other things you might want to bring

you can find some wonderful packing lists out there if you google "packing /cruises"

    good luck

  8. if you check out this site www.vacationstogo.com it will tell you all you need to know about your cruise, you will also be surprised about the prices also, i used it a few times already, a good company
