I am Black. since I moved to the US Virgin islands, I've had at least 4 Black managers and all of them are the worst managers I've ever had. They yell and treat employees like objects and think everyone exceptt them is stupid and ignorant. after I quit my last job, I cocluded that I won't work for a black manager again; I've worked with caucasian, Hispanic and Asian magaers in Florida before and have never had any problem. Luckily i just got a job as an assistant for Caucasian male. All employees adore the man, he is respectful and so sweet and professional. I think I got a point. My last manager (Black) wouldn't even say Good Morning to the staff; she was a *****. Am I wrong or racist for refusing to work for a Black manager after all they have put me trhough?

  1. I won't call you rascist since you have bad impressions.

  2. I am an old codger and I am now happily retired. I have had bosses and employees in every color you can imagine. Trust me on this one. It really doesn't matter what color they are some are really good and some are really awfull. I am sorry to say that I believe that you just have had a statistical run of bad luck. I don't mean to make a bad pun here but don't let it COLOR your perception. Better Luck in the future. Bob

  3. truthfully? Yes. On both accounts.

How would you like it? Seriously whatever your gender or race, how would you feel if someone took ONE look at you and because of a bad experience or few with someone with similar "packaging" they refused to work with you when you never did one thing wrong.

What if you were made a manager and someone said, if that person is my boss I quit. And you hadn't done anything, but because of THEIR past with OTHERS they refused?

Get past it and know that that could have been ANYONE with any packaging.

Be careful about you could really be shorting yourself and others and really lose out, and so could they.

There's beyond good reason it's illegal in the US to discriminate from an employers standpoint.

Gosh seriously... people should really only be judged by the content of their character.

where have I heard that? ;)

  4. ~~I would say it has something to do with the type of personality they may have in the V.I. I can't believe a person's color would make the difference. During my lifetime I have worked for jerks and great people. Color never had anything to do with it. I prefer working for men, they seem to be more upfront with what they want and women can be very difficult to please. (Yes I know I am female, but I don't really like working for one)!  I hope you give everyone a chance and try not to judge 4 wrong types to a basis for future employment. Heck, I'm praying our next President is Black, and who wouldn't want to work for him??~~

  5. I will continue to repeat myself...

People suck. Not all people do.

People suck no matter what race, religion, gender, age or sexual orientation.

You've had some bad experiences I see, but don't single out an entire race as being incapable of providing good management.

Blame it on their parents for not raising them to be considerate.

Managers aren't always going to be your best friend. Alot of managers I've had experience with have been on a power trip.

  6. Who could blame you? It doesn't mean that every black manager is bad, but it has been that way in your experience, and you want to be save and avoid having to go through that in the future. It is only human to want to avoid bad situations in the future. I have only had white managers, and I didn't like them at all (and I'm white). It doesn't mean you are racist, just that you are cautious.

  7. No, that is called learned behavior, e.g., when you hold your hand over an open flame, your hand will burn and hurt so you don;t do that again, this is the same thing. And it is not racist, it is honest, and the people who annoyed and treated you badly just happened to be black. It isn't their color as much as their actions that left a bad taste in your mouth. I won't work for a female mgr any more because I have had so many unpleasant experiences in the past.
