It were Barack Obamas child? Would the Republicans still grant their family "good wishes" and let it pass?

Steve Schmidt, the chief strategist for the McCain campaign, was surrounded by reporters and cameras as he walked through the media center next door to the Xcel Center in St. Paul, where the convention is taking place. Asked over and over when and how Mr. McCain found out about Bristol’s pregnancy, he repeated, “Senator McCain was aware” of it and called it “a private family matter.” He would not say when Mr. McCain found out or how, calling it a “private conversation.”

“The fact is, John McCain had a thorough search and made the decision to add Sarah Palin to the ticket because he believes” that she “will change America,” Mr. Schmidt said.

He said how big this becomes would depend on the media. “I think the American people will see this news and they’d have good wishes for the young lady and they’ll respect the privacy of the family,” he said.

  1. I think this is a non-issue.  Palin's daughter is marrying the father. She is not aborting the child. I would feel the same way if it were Obama's daughter.

  2. no different

    Life happens

    Take it as it comes

    We are all human

we move on and deal with it

She is rasing 5 kids and deserves the most respect.

  3. Obama's children are like 8 and 10.

  4. I think Obama would be in jail. Isn't this girl underage?

  5. but it isn't.    "if" is a big question....    What "if" Palin paid more attention to her daughter.    What "if" Joe Biden didn't raise Beau Biden, who though he is the Attorney General of Delaware, and the son of a U.S. Senator, will soon be deploying to Iraq with his national guard unit

  6. A black, unwed, pregnant teenager! Oh h**l NO ... they would be all over that story ... I doubt they would be as sympathetic and understanding ... the YA support of this situation is humorous, only b/c everyone knows it would be a different if it were Obama.

  7. Who cares about the ifs ands or butts? This is wild!

  8. The situation would be so different if this was in the Obama camp.  Can just imagine  the things the Reps would say about him and his values.

So Miss church lady's kid is pregnant.  How did that happen, Sarah.  Maybe when you were sitting in the Governor's chair or planning on going higher up the scale of politics.  Maybe you should have spent some time listening to your children's needs.  Love was something you should have given her before she became sexually active.  If children get at home the love and goodness of a protective and caring parent, then they don't have to go and get it from the arms of a boyfriend.  So they will make the poor girl marry the boy.  Another sad story.

  9. If what? If it happened to a Democrat? Hugely different.

Republicans have been disparaging Obama's teenage mom for a year now.

  10. No.  A couple of Right wing nuts were trashing his 7 year old daughter after the convention.  Don't get me started on the smears of Mrs. Obama.

It doesn't make it right but its amusing to see the Right wing outrage over the trashing of Bristol Palin.

  11. I don't find fault with Palin's daughter. What I find fault with is Palin's haughty attitude toward abortion, s*x education, and birth control. I feel for her daughter, for if she'd had a mother with a brain, she wouldn't have had to go through what she's going to have to go through.

This is hyprocrisy at its finest. It rates right up there with McCain cheating on his first wife.

  12. Yes, we sure as h**l wouldn't shame them into having an abortion.

If you knew anything about this, you would know that the vast majority of conservatives that happen to also be religious have experienced in their own churches programs that are meant to support and offer unconditional love to teenage mothers.  I don't even go to church anymore, but I dislike the mischaracterization of the religious right.

It's sad some take such pleasure in taking the low road, then try to excuse it by referring to actions of others.

For those trying to blame this on Palin by saying she is anti birth control.

"She is Christian and pro-life, but also a supporter of birth control: she's a member of Feminists For Life (FFL), an anti-abortion, pro-contraception organization."

  13. Like John Edwards child? Like Eliot Spitzer's hooker? Like the Mayor of Detroit? I could go on but you should get the point if you're not too terribly slow. There is that risk among Obama supporters.

  14. Just because your teen daughter or son aren't having babies doesn't mean they're not doing what it takes to possibly make a baby.
