ADOBO-ATHLETES - because this is what the government seems to be able to afford to feed these guys while preparing for sporting events... and not much else. I mean, s***w proper athletic gear and coaching... as long as we keep feeding them adobo, they'll do fine. Just ask the taekwondo team.

Yah think any of them are gold medal calibre?

Any gold-medal-hope standout amongst them?

  1. It should be really be no different than all the other olympics.

I think as always our best bets would be the martials arts & boxing. I forgot who's in our delegation for those disciplines so I have no idea how they would fare this time around. But of course the "luck" of the draw & the "judging" will always be the keys even if they eat adobo or baby back ribs.

Anyway I used to go the the same gym the Philippines taekwondo team goes to but that was ages & ages ago. And if you don't know back then, only the ones that can afford to pay for their training, equipment, food, supplements & maybe even travel & accomodations are the ones able to represent the country, of course they have a lot more to eat than just adobo.  You know, during the days of Monsour del Rosario , Bea Lucero, Stephen Fernandez, Ali Atienza, Donald Geizler, etal.

But I have no idea about the conditions now, being away from the country for so long.

  2. Only GOD knows what will gonna happen.

GO FOR THE GOLD! MABUHAY ANG MGA PINADALA SA BEIJING OLYMPICS!

  3. I'm not very optimistic about it (although still hoping for a miracle).  The Government has always screwed the sports program of our athletes, injecting their lethal dose of politics into sports.  And before the GMA crotch huggers defend her majesty, make a research of how our sports has declined in this country because of government intervention.  Actually the decline goes way back in the early 90s. It's really amazing that our athletes perform as well as they could\ve despite lack of support from Malacanang.

  4. adobo is not only delicious but also nutritious as well.

reminds of the move to change our olympic drink because it has gotten us nowhere.

  5. I have been watching the Final Countdown to Beijing at Discovery Channel. The Chinese Athletes are being prepared aside from training, they are sustained with their chinese dishes which are believed to be nutritious and would help them out in their respective sports meet. They would even use ginseng for their natural vitamins.

Now if Chinese have those...Filipinos have adobo! In replacement to their ginseng...we always have pito-pito and fitrum.=P

For getting the gold...if Manny Pacquiao is a delegate, could be! Is he?

  6. Having the best facilities can help in winning a gold medal but that isn't an assurance. Look at Rocky (the film). I know it may not be realistic enough for some but sometimes, when people are left with nothing much, that's the time when they really become inspired.

It's bad enough that they have been termed as "adobo-athletes"; it's worse that we keep using the term for the lack of a better word to use. Let's just wish them luck. They may not be able to bring home the bacon and break a leg but I think, being just a part of the Olympics makes the experience worth it. The politicians will always meddle with anything that can make them popular so let's just try to make this as an opportunity for us to know who are those people who are "user-friendly".

Our athletes will do everything they can to win. If they win even one gold medal, cheers! If not, well, there's always the next time.

  7. pose for pictures while getting the beatings from foreign athletes in their respective fields?

can't blame our athletes.  their mentors or managers acting as politicians are the ones to blame.  they are suckers like leeches.

    2004 Athens  =  0 medals

    2008 Beijing  =  0 medals
