Question:

So how exactly do I take care of my new piercing?

This is so sad. =p

Anyway I got my left cartilage pierced. The only instructions the artist gave me was that I'm not allowed to do sports for two weeks, go swimming or dunk my head underwater. He also told us to go to the apoteke (the English word escapes me) and buy antiseptic.

Should I just spray on the antiseptic and let it air dry or what?

He said I'm not allowed to touch the piercing. Which is hard because I brush against it (painfully) every time I tie my hair back.

Anyway, tomorrow we're going to the apoteke in my village and buying some sea salt so I can start bathing the wound. I should do that right away, right?

I probably should have researched this stuff before hand but I did this today on a very nervous whim.

  1. well, i just got an industrial piercing which is a bar that goes through two cartilage piercing, so what my piercer said was to wash my piercings 2-3 times a day with anti-bacterial soap or you can do 2-3 sea salt soaks. i already had the soap so thats what i did.

but for the soaks i heard the easy way is to but the sea salt and water in a coffee cup, put the coffee cup on a towel on the floor. and laydown with your ear in the cup.

after about 6-8 weeks you only need to do the soaks/washes 1-2 times a day untill you are sure it is completly healed.

and you can twist it just don't do it alot. and don't twist untill after your ear is completly dry from the soak/wash.

    mmkay, hope i helped (:

  2. Your best bet is to buy sea salt- not antiseptic. Then put some sea salt in hot water and bathe the piercing in it. You should also get q tips so you can get at the crustys (lymph) and get it all off the bar/ring. You should do this two times a day. You could also do heat compresses which seem to draw out alot of the gunk. He was right when he said don't touch it. You can pass bacteria from your hands into the piercing and it can become infected. You can dunk your head underwater- I mean how would you have a shower or wash your hair if you didnt? Just be careful of the piercing and if you get soap in the piercing, just rinse it out with warm water so as not to aggitate the piercing. Dont go swimming though, and try not to do anything where you might bash the piercing...also, tying your hair up would help alot because hair often gets wrapped around the post and this can aggravate the piercing.
