So i'm doing a product design degree? What are my prospects/options?

I'm doing a product design degree at uni. But i'm quite sacred that i won't get employed in it after uni. I'm getting the general drift that its quite rare, and i've been doing some of my own research on job sites and that, and i keep coming quite empty.

Do you know of anyone who is doing a product design degree?

If my job search after graduation fails, i've still got a degree right?

  1. Hello

The university careers service should be a useful first contact point as information regarding outcomes for previous graduates of this course should be available there.

For employment prospects relevant to product/industrial design graduates, it is also well worth checking out the Prospects graduate website at http://www.prospects.ac.uk/links/signpos...  If you click on the ‘job options’ link, you’ll see a list of jobs directly related to your degree, followed by a list of jobs where your degree would be useful.  If you click on the ‘careers’ link, you’ll see that six months after graduation, two thirds of these graduates are employed full-time.

As a graduate you’ll be able to avail of other facilities on the Prospects site, including their occupational planner, job search and CV check: see http://www.prospects.ac.uk/cms/ShowPage/...  By the way, when you graduate you will always have that degree qualification, regardless of your employment situation.

The Prospects site also has information on postgraduate study, including funding opportunities, at http://www.prospects.ac.uk/links/pgstudy...  Apart from conventional study routes, postgraduate study is available through supported open learning at The Open University; for information see http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/search/sh...

I hope this answers your queries and wish you well in your study and job search.
