i see crevices bumps and what not, i guess i have to scrape this off or fill it with compound, but how can i make sure the wall is ready to paint? cuz when i checked everything looked normal until i finally got the paint job done. does Home Depot have some laser i cud rent that could point this defects out?

  1. That sounds like it is an old wall... not dry lined.  If it is really bad, your best bet is to get a plasterer to skim it.  It will look like new and will be worth the expense.

    If that's too much.. how about wall paper?

    Seriously, if a wall is bad like that,, it is almost impossible to patch it up.  The problem you mention usually happens early or late in the day when the sun makes a glancing angle and the contrast is high.  You could try and find a paint with a more matte finish because it produces a more diffuse finish.


  2. What you have to do is just by running your hand across the wall, or just to see the defects. I think the best thing to do in finding defects in the wall, is to get a lamp and look around the walls with the light , more so at night then you'll find and see everything. I've been a house painter for over 25 years and that's a little trick I learned from an old boos of mine years ago. Also try to say with a flat paint because semi-gloss you really see everything if your walls are not smooth, on trim it's ok.

  3. I am not sure about the laser thing, but why not wallpaper the walls, thus fixing the obvious faults of a less than perfect wall.,
