  1. Medication comes from a psychiatrist.  Counselling comes from a therapist.  If you are just going for counselling then you will probably not get medication.  If you are going to a mental health center then you might be seeing a psychiatrist.  Usually they take a long history and then give medication.  I think the first visit was not the best for me because I really did not get to working on my own problems just gave them information.

You are doing the right thing in getting help.  I feel much better now that I am on medication and getting therapy.

  2. You usually have to be evaluated before you will get meds ( with my doctor, it was 3 visits to do that ). Sorry to say, it didn't help me at all, and the meds made me feel like a zombie so i had to quit taking them. Hope you'll have better luck, feel better :-)

  3. It depends if you are seeing a psychiatrist or a psychologist.

If it is a psychiatrist, yes you willl get meds on your first visit. If he prescribes an antidepressant, ask him if he has samples that he can give you.  It sometimes takes awhile to find the correct antidepressant and dosing.

He will also give you a pill to help you relax so you wont have panic attacks.

If you go see a psychologist, they are unable to prescribe medications.

I am on Prozac and Klonopin and it has helped my panic attacks.
