There were two cops there. one of them had moved my car to a near by parking lot. as he moved my car his flash light fell onto my seat and he didn't realize it till later on that night. i still have it and i want to know if i could get into trouble for not giving it back? he called me about 3 or 4 times in the past wk asking for it back! I'm going to give it back eventually!

  1. Give it back or he might charge you with theft!

  2. I would strongly advise that you contact the Law Enforcement Agency that he is with, and return the flashlight, not only with this make you look good, and honest, but I'm involved in law enforcement, and that kind of stuff is expensive.  Not to mention, next time he pulls you over, he will remember you as the person that returned his flashlight to him.  As far as you getting in trouble, I'm not exactly sure if theft would apply to this, but as said before, to avoid all that, I would strongly suggest that you give it back to him ASAP.

  3. I'll buy it from you!

  4. Most states have laws prohibiting you from keeping found property over a certain value. Even though it was not your fault, you could be charged for failing to return it.

Your state could also have a law where if you keep something for so long, it is considered theft. Although my state does not, I do see an occasional post on here where someone gets a summons into court for failing to return a rented movie. You will know when that time expires, because he won't be asking anymore, he will just show up with a ticket. Then it will be too late, you will be looking at not only the ticket, but quite possibly restitution for the flashlight. They are not cheap.

  5. You need to give it back now. If not you will get into trouble.

  6. if he hadn't stolen your car, he'd still have the flashlight. keep it.

  7. Give it back ASAP because i am sure if they really wanted to they could charge you with receiving stolen property as ridiculous as it sounds.

  8. Give it back and you will not get in trouble.
