  1. Don't bother spending a lot of money on something you will most likely never wear again... call around your local fancy dress shops and ask if they have any flamenco dresses for hire.  You don't need an authentic dress, just something to look the part.

Or check on ebay, lots of flamenco dresses for sale for not too expensive.  Just go to the site and search "flamenco costume" or "flamenco dress" and you should get something for around $20.

Tie your hair back in a bun, wear some dark dramatic eye makeup, bright red lipstick and that's your costume.

  2. All of the answers show you traditional clothes that are only worn in special occasions. But normally people wear just like you, jeans, t-shirts, suits...

And If you want a traditional one, as someone has said, there's a different outfit in each region. It's true that for some reason, people seem to identify Spanish with flamenco and toreros outfits. But flamenco it's only from Andalucía and torero is only for toreros.

  3. this website is awesome... google pics sucks but everytime i need good pics this one always works...I'm actually moving to spain in 2 weeks haha but yeahhh goooood luck!

  4. The site Keely gives you gives a bunch of great flamenco outfits.  These are great, but be aware that the flamenco dress is most traditionally worn in Andalucía, not ALL over Spain, except for to dance in for shows.  Even in Andalucía, they only wear them for special occasions (generally the fairs) and dance recitals.

the third from the left on the top row, mind you, the spanish class is dressed a la Mexican, NOT Spanish.

If you are interested in other regions, here are a few:  THESE ARE NOT MY PHOTOS, AND I HAVE NO PERMISSION TO LET YOU USE THE PHOTOS...only to see the dresses.

These are in Madrid, dressed up for the Festival of San Isidro (patron saint of Madrid)

I've seen a group of these folks dance.  They play a bagpipe.  See, Galicia, Wales, Gaelic, all related!  The region is very Celtic!

As for buying them.  These dresses are VERY expensive!  You might want to check some dance catalogs and websites.

I searched flamenco dresses, and found lists.  Here's a sample...double the prices for US$, and you'll be pretty close to right on.
