So i really wanna be an elite distance runner....

so i joined track last year cause i was talked into it and it worked our perfectly...i was the best freshmen...but now im also doing cross country...and i really wanna be an elite runner for like at least a scholarship..

what should my mile and two-mile times be around?

and how do i stay committed to it?...

For some perspective, the New York State high school record in the mile is 4:05 and 2 mile is 8:50; each was set by a guy who made the Olympics.   As someone wrote, you are very good if you run under 4:20/9:25, but if you want to be "elite" you want to approach the first times I wrote.   Being really good as a sophomore does not guarantee that you will continue to get faster as you age.  Learn all you can about running by reading the best web sites about running; here is a guide.

  2. for a good college you should have sub 4:20 and sub 9:30...you can take some tme off now..but starting junior year you should be running everyday

  3. If you're just starting it now, just follow your coach's lead. You'll figure how you want to make your mileage later on. If you want a scholarship, you should get your mile into at least the 4:20's by the time you're a senior.

    Distance running has a tendency to make you question your commitment from time to time. Just think of the reward of getting that scholarship.
